BMW's next 7-series is a technological marvel
BMW bought this 191-acre site in 1986; all models since have been partly developed here. The facility now has 32 miles of test routes: a high-speed banked circuit and various handling tracks, including one with water sprinklers, an FIA-approved grand prix test circuit, even an exact replica of the Nürburgring's fearsome Karussell corner. The original racing circuit, an oval, and its tiny grandstand, have been preserved

I'd hate to say this, but I kinda agree with silver1...
I mean, there's many people out there that can create wonders, but like the light bulb, that's not completely true. Edison's true reason to come into fame is his marvelous electric lamp that LASTED! Quite a few people were competing with him...trying to patent their products, but Edison's lasted for not just hours but days...
I praise the 7's gadgets, but if BMW really wants to impress me (and millions of others), they've gotta make their technologies more reliable...not fool-proof, just reliable.

WorldofLuxury,
Your incredibly biased comments have made you loose all credibility you had. You Lexus fanatics are so full of yourself with propaganda. You talk as if other brands cannot build cars that last long - they can. Furthermore owner treatment is a big and often overlooked factor.
If you knew anything about cars you would see that in many parts of Eastern Europe, North Africa, South America and the Middle East and Asia too there are many older cars still in use from Mercedes, Peugeot, Renault, BMW, Volkswagen, Fiat etc. that have withstood the test of time and simply refuse to die. I've traveled around the world, I've seen cars in places where you'd just wonder how they do it, how they manage to take all this abuse and still soldier on. Toyota makes long-lasting cars, too, but give it a rest with this "Lexus is king" BS. Lexus is so overrated (by the press, by fans and by people with no clue).

Yes it`s technologically advanced but not innovative . Innovations that I find : flexray data transmission ( this one I think the most important ) , traffic signs recognition by camera ( speed limits ) with cruise control adjusting automatically speed to speed limits and that`s all , maybe some minor i-drive upgrades like Integrated owner`s manual in i-drive and adaptative brakelights depending on braking power . Other technologies like Night vision with person recognition , four wheel steering , Lane change and lane departure warning system were much earlier introduced in other cars .

“WHY has BMW had not released a HYBRID”
Because they sell diesels. Most over the world finds diesel more efficient and better performing than hybrids. Looking at the world market, North America is the only country that has embraced hybrids. Hybrids from BMW on the way to answer that demand..
“Only major innovation has been awarded to the Lexus.”
Who has awarded Lexus for the major innovations? How many “engine of the year awards have they won compared to BMW.
“Lexus's 3 models has hybrids with ultra reliability 14 years in a row”.
Which Lexus hybrid has been out for 14 years?
“Honda has hydrogen cars in production already. Where is BMWs hydrogen?”
For sale in California, BMW beat Honda to the market by a couple of months
“ Toyota is posibly coming out with a Solar power collecting Prius(Lexus version?) and where are BMWs solar innovation? “
What innovation, Audi has it, Saab had it years ago. Just like four wheel steer (which I agree with you on) nothing new here.
“Plug in hybrids are right around the corner!”
Yes but neither Toyota or Lexus will be first with them
“True innovation of engineering isn't about night vision or 4 wheel steering but it is beyond this. It has to be a whole. It has to be balanced. The car has to be Gold standard on all categories not just a handling.”
I concur completely, as far a balance goes why has the current LS has never won a comparison test. The LS 600 has always finished last in every test I’ve read.
It Simply speaking...BMW are overhyped due to handling prowess that 95%
No car I MEAN NO CAR, at this level is over-hyped. They are all extraordinary machine.
“folks will NEVER even get close to using especially in the U.S. BMWs are so damn focused on 0-60, top speed and handling”
BMW regards both handling and speed as a safety feature, accident avoidance.
“BMW gets recalled when there are problems.
Toyota promptly recalls themselves.”
Complete fiction, nobody wants recalls, nobody, and nobody out of "good faith."
For the record BMW has a higher percentage of cars recommend from Consumer Reports than Toyota does.

"Most respected brand"
Actually that goes to Mercedes-Benz.
Everywhere outside of the U.S.A., Lexus is considered an overpriced Toyota with no prestige.
Sales in Europe and Japan were disappointing, if not horrendous. Sure sales were up 200%. They sold 3 cars this year instead of 1.
Lexus sales worldwide are not even half of BMW or even Audi.
"Worlds most powerful country"
Now I know you're a Japanese man working for Toyota.
The worlds most powerful country still is the USA.
CHINA has 99897 times more power than Japan. Is the Japanese government brainwashing you?
Who defeated you in WWII? Oh wait, you don't know what that is. The Japanese government brainwashes and denies that it ever took place. It hides the fact that they killed millions of people like the Germans.
"LF-A"
That cars been nothing but hype all along. It keeps getting delayed and will be overpriced. Who knows if it will even ever come out?
The NSX will be a much better choice. Who'd choose an LF-A over a Ferrari? Ferrari/Lamborghini owners buy their cars for the prestige, name, driving feel, and styling (All of which Lexus lacks). They won't even consider it.
The GT-R and the NSX are the top supercars from Japan and are priced much lower than what the LF-A will command. These two are a much better value.

Hmm, 4 wheel steering, night vision "technological marvel"? Total misuse of the term. As a previous poster has written these things have been done before. 4 wheel steering introduced by Nissan in 1986
! Night vision was in the Cadillac in 1999!
"HICAS (High Capacity Actively Controlled Suspension) is Nissan's rear wheel steering system found on cars ranging from the more recent Skyline and Z iterations to smaller models like the Nissan Cefiro (A31), 240SX/180SX and Nissan Serena/Nissan Largo. It is also found on models from Nissan's Infiniti division, such as the Q45 and the M45/M35. Unlike other four wheel steering systems, HICAS and Super HICAS are fitted to improve handling rather than as a parking aid."
"HICAS was introduced on the 1986 Skyline GTS coupes (GTS, GTS-R, and GTS-X). The system was later adapted to work on many models in the Nissan range, beginning with the Passage GT."
"General Motors' new 2000 model Cadillac DeVille will highlight a night vision technology when it goes on sale in 1999. GM will be the first automaker to offer the Night Vision device, which was based on technology borrowed from military applications during Operation Desert Storm in 1991."

If this really impresses you so called car fanatics, I would really challenge you to step outside your BMW box and explore other brands. U might be surprised what you find out. I do find that they have taken these features and improved them. But these features are still ot full original and are now expected on cars in this class.

I won't quit either until BMW gets it right by killing i-Drive, installing anti-door-ding protective side moldings, and by cloning the S-class front seats. BTW, I'm no fan of unnecessary overpriced complications like 4-wheel steering -- they will add significantly to life cycle cost in terms of repair and maintenance, not to mention reliability issues due to mean time between failure in vehicles that are generally not built to aerospace standards.

What I like about some older BMW's are the fact they are well balanced driving vehicles with controls that were simple. After having an Acura with all the techno options, I have to say all those things can ruin an otherwise nice car. I think people should ask for the 7-class of autos without the gadgets. I just want have fun going from point A to B. The controls on some economy vehicles like the Corolla are nice and simple.

BMW has had some good technologies implemented in their cars as well, so has Lexus. You give no credit to other companies. Toyota isn't the greatest in the world just because they are #1. Keep in mind they are first and foremost an eco-brand. I don't know why some view BMW as an eco brand because the Big 3 of Germany are all used as cabs there but it doesn't dull the image of any of them.

At high speeds, the stress on the rear wheels when all 4 tires turn the same way (some call it crab steering) sounds more like an accident waiting to happen.
4 wheel steering will also require getting used to. Chevy dropped their 4wheel steering trucks because nobody wanted it (too awkward).
Nissan-Toyota tried it in the 80s and had the same issues.

But you see huu76, you are speaking about Japaneses and American companies that give up the first time something doesn't work for them.
Everyone trashed BMW for the idrive, but did they give up, did sales suffer, NO... They perservered until perfection.
BMW, often imitated, but never duplicated...

Oh yeah, sure... BMW is all about "continuous income stream" i.e. Lease Deals.
I'm glad other makes are not in line to duplicate BMW's ways.
