BMW says: “Project i” will build premium vehicles

Project i represents the latest gimmick from BMW and the company’s bet on building smaller, cleaner and more efficient cars.



The first news around this project came about in November 2007, when “Project i” was still in the rumor stage. At the time, there were three options that BMW was looking at: acquire an existing brand, create a new one or revive an older name, Isetta in this case.

The rumors became reality when BMW’s CEO, Herr Reithofer validated the Project i, a “car with a completely new look, with two engines available. One will be a very efficient internal combustion engine and the other will be a purely electric model”.

At the Geneva Motor Show, Project-i leader Dr Ulrich Kranz took the time to reassure the BMW fans that these will be premium vehicles, not competitors to Tata Nano.

The “Project i” models will be geared towards mega-cities, such as NYC, London, Tokyo, Mexico City and many others, cities in desperate need of vehicles that can solve some of the traffic congestion issues.

How does a smaller car solve the traffic congestion issue? You still have the same number of cars on the road, they're just smaller. Makes no sense.

And the .3 series is born. Best handling go-kart $20,000 will buy. Poor people are lining up as we speak to get one of these and display their individuality.
The M.3 should be a blast to drive, a ride only automatic driving enthusiasts will appreciate, magic feel and all.

Hope MB gives this thing the axe after they buyout BMW.

The Isetta reborn... Could be a good thing, as long as they price it realistically, and don't overload it with unnecessary technology and luxury items. Hint for BMW: K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid)!

That's easy. Tip it against the Isetta, at the stop light.

On a serious not though, I swear I saw something like this a while back where the cabin counterbalanced in the turns, and then lined back up and stabilized on the straights. Because it's a 3 wheeler, it's probably able to easily stand on it's own. Kind of like the Dodge Tomahawk.
