BMW to Use Daimler’s Lithium-Ion Battery Technology
Daimler and Continental will share their new lithium-ion battery technology with BMW as part of Daimler and BMW's cooperation agreement on developing hybrid technology.

Daimler’s executive board member Thomas Weber confirmed the agreement. The companies appear to have come to a financial arrangement whereby BMW has contributed to the development costs in return for gaining access to the technology shortly after Daimler.

General Motors could also benefit from the technology because they have already engaged Continental as a development partner for lithium-ion batteries. Read Article

Not a big surprise seeing that Continental has a tie in with A123. I hope BMW goes through with it.

I'd like to see two vehicles out of BMW:

1. A high performance PHEV version of the 7 series. Use high power electric motors putting down ~400hp and 1,000lb/ft in place of the rear differential. Use the turbocharged 1.6l I4 from the mini-cooper S but modify it with a higher CR and a smaller turbo for better efficiency. A 10kw/h battery pack should suffice.

2. A full EV based on the e92. Take the e92 but modify it to be a fastback three door hatch. Have it use wheel hub motors at all four corners and use a 20kw/h battery pack.
