The New York auto show will be a loaded event for BMW with the North American debuts of three vehicles: the Active Tourer concept car, the 3-series Gran Turismo and the 328d.

To showcase where BMW is headed, the Active Tourer concept will make an appearance. This hatchback features a three-cylinder gas engine paired with an electric motor. Together, these are said to achieve 95 mpg. A fun characteristic of this concept is the "cool shade" glass roof. Using a suspended particle device, this roof can go from crystal clear to shaded with the touch of a button.

The 3-series Gran Turismo will also grace the show floor. Features specific to the Gran Turismo model include the following: a longer wheelbase, more rear-seat room and an optional panoramic moonroof. The 3-series GT arrives in U.S. dealerships this summer and is available with either a TwinPower turbo four-cylinder or an inline six-cylinder engine.

Expanding the 3-series lineup even further in the U.S. will be the much anticipated 328d. The turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine boasts 180 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque, as well as a 0-60 mph time of 7.2 seconds. Adding that the 328d is expected to achieve more than 40 mpg sweetens the deal for 3-series fans.
