Black Production X6 XDrive 35i Spotted Resting at Home
I live in the Upstate area of SC,home of BMW Manufacturing.I spotted this production model X6 in a neighborhood in the Upstate.I've seen this X6 around town and finally saw it again in this neighborhood. There was no camo on the car.All badging and logo's were clearly visible.Thought your readers would like to see a "Real" not Auto Show X6.Also the first Black X6 I've seen anywhere. Thanks.Palbay

If only that were my house!!!

The X6 looks amazing in black, and Im glad theyre offering those gorgeous 20 inch wheels on the twin turbo six (have to get the V8 to get them on the X5)

I also love the shadowline black trim that replaces the chrome (which leads me to believe this is the Sport Package equipped X6)

What a beautiful machine.

That's NO Pontiac Aztec people! With its gorgeous lines , Bavarian Motor Works has a hit on their hands!

As Chip mentioned, it looks amazing in black - sinfully sexy to put it in other words!

Awesome job!!!

This X6 belongs to a BMW Employee.I saw it at a local Micky D's few days ago.I got out and walked around the car.It looks nothing like the pics in person.Absolutely beautiful automobile!!!From a distance it appears to be rather average sedan sized,as you approach the car up close, you realize it is a big vehicle.I guess the visual "sleight of hand" was the intended effect of the designers.I'm about 5'10" tall and the top of the rear hatch hits me about mid chest. The car in person has an awesome street stance and presence!I'll keep my eyes peeled for future X6 encounters.I'm got some more great pic's but could not figure out how to get the rest posted at Autospies.I'll keep trying.Thanks.Palbay

I think the reason some people like it immediately is that details are done perfectly in the design. This is very strange for a Bangle! Typically it is the opposite, with a car such as the Z4 having a gorgeous profile but a bunch of busy "surface flaming" details ruining it.

This car, though, looks fantastic in all those details. From the C-pillar to the trunk, for example, it is a perfect flow into the tailights.

Take a step back, though, and the car is Aztek-hideous. Wheel gaps that can't decide if they belong on a car or SUV, split the difference, and end up perfectly wrong. A roofline that leaves rear occupants with the stance of a person looking for a missing box of Christmas lights in a low attic or crawlspace.

The worst problem, though, is a problem of scale. Like the Nissan Mirano, the basic idea seems to be to take sporty car, upsize it by about 30% (including the wheels) and call it a family vehicle. I personally think this idea sucks, but I'm afraid it will be spreading into many more Tonka-truck designs over the next years.

tbone, looks are subjective. You have formed your own opinion there. Good for you. Size is not subjective though. As they say, "it is what it is". And frankly, you're wrong about the interior space of the car.

I sat in the front and rear of the X6 at the NAIAS this week, and while I might not be a giant at 5'11" there was plenty of room in both rows, even when I wore a hat in the back. The rear occupants do not have to "hunch over like they're looking for Christmas lights". The seating position was normal and was plenty comfortable.

Before you make statements about the X6 you might consider, oh I don't know, seeing one in person, sitting in it, etc. Actually that goes for everything -- know what you're talking about before you talk. It lends a little credibility to your argument when the people listening to it don't immediately know you're full of BS.

JRobUSC, I have heard other people remark about the rear headroom, plus you have to admit from the photos is certainly does *look* restricted. I'm glad that isn't as poor as I'd expected. However, what about entry/egress? I saw some photos from a show where it definitely looked cramped. Why should this even be a question in a vehicle this size? Maybe, just maybe, because this design is clearly form over function?

It *looks* restricted, but you have to remember that this car is still based on the BMW X5, which has a very good amount of headroom. The roof line, while sloping, will not have much of an effect, because it's the height of the BODY overall that counts. Don't look at the windows--look at the car's height. It will be fine in back. Think about the Audi A6; it also has a sloping roof line, but it's ample for adults in the rear seat.

the people who have remarked about the rear headroom thus far have all been people doing what you just did -- guessing from the vehicle's appearance how much room there is in the back. Would I want to sit in the back if I was 6'5" Agent 001? Hell no, but (and now I'm guessing) Agent 001 probably doesn't have much headroom in the back seat of most car shaped vehicles. 6'5" people sit in the front. The front seats will fit anyone, the back seats fit two average to slightly above average people. And headroom is the only "shortcoming", if you even want to call it that. There's a ton of shoulder and leg room, and getting in and out is easy. You're not as high as an SUV and not as low and cramped as a car. You can just step right out of it. Even my 5' tall wife loved it in person, and she hated it in pictures. I took her to the NAIAS because I wanted he to see the X6 since her X5 lease is up in November. When she saw it in Detroit getting mobbed by people (there were more people around the X6 than any other single vehicle at the show while I was there) her first words were "holy crap, I was wrong! That thing is awesome!"

After seeing that new MB CLC, I'm starting to think this looks like one of those jacked up. Whether you like the X6 or not you cant disagree.

I want it! I cant wait to get into one. The best part is, the turbos are easily manipulated by a chip. For the 335, you can easily get an added 80HP and 120 torque, according to Dinan. Could you imagine adding that to the TT V8? The 400hp and 450 torque boosted to 480HP and 570 torque, that would be insane, but I doubt realistic.
