Most countries had reeled under the global industry downturn but not China.
In fact, China had been a major bright spot to global carmakers as Beijing’s stimulus measures boosted consumer confidence.
Sales of BMW and Mini brands in China came to a record-breaking 90,536 units in 2009, up 36% from 65,822 units in 2008. On the other hand, its rival Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz unit was able to sell 68,500 cars in China during the period, a 77% rise.
