Boon Or Bust? Lexus Cinematic Ads Are Revealed

A few weeks back we reported the Lexus was going to start advertising in various movie theatres across the nation.

The plan is to target a younger demographic by targeting movies that appeal to a primarily younger audience has plenty of merit.  After all who is going to flip a channel or get up an leave during the commercial?

But is it going to work? Take a  look at 6 of the 15 second ads produced by ad agency ATTIK of San Francisco featuring the new IS-F.  Judging by the content these will be geared to mid 20 to 40 year old groups.

Take and look and tell us which is the best and if this approach will influence the intended audience?

What is F?

1) "F is shifting in 0.1 seconds"

2) "F is Beauty within the Beast"

3) "F is a 170 mph top speed"

4) "F is 0-60 in 4.6 seconds"

5) "F is Precision Braking by Brembo"

6) "F is Commanding Performance"

IMO, the missed the target here. Most movie goers are teenagers who can not afford a $60k+ car.

It's just to generate more buzz...kids cant afford ipod's either, they get their parents to buy them...can't you picture it? "Hey Dad check out this new Lexus"

That must've been the idea here.

I like the ads, but I don't know why do the Germen fan boys have so much hate to Lexus. I think its mostly fear? ;-)

Lexus has done a great job with the ISF, its engine should've had more power, and fix the understeer issue and this thing will kick ass.

The German boys may not dislike Lexus as much as they don't want to give Lexus any respect.

You have to remember a large portion of automotive innovations originated in Germany.

To many of them Lexus rode the coat tails in on the hard lessons learned and threw a slick marketing campaign on what was at the time an upscale rebadge.

Lexus has changed in many ways, but respect takes decades not just years to earn.

You could always ignore those fanboys instead of being the ignorant bully you are.

"You have to remember a large portion of automotive innovations originated in Germany."

It's comments like that one that just fuels the flames, and you know it. So basically what you are syaing is that no one else has merit because Benz did it first. It's that kind of warped thinking that would still have us driving the antiquated, unreliable, unremarkable Benzes and Bimmers of the 80s. Lexus stepped up to the plate with high tech engines, amzing quality, pleasing designs, immediately shaming the Germans into coming up with better product. You German fanboys owe Lexus a debt of gratitude for that.

No, what irritates the German fanboys here is that there is another brand to challenge them. Just like a Ford fan will diss anything from Chevy and vice versa. You cant apply logic to it.

As an aside, what slays me is the line, "I just dont like Lexus beacuse of the fanboys." Everyone with half a brain here knows that the most absurd Lexus posters in Autospies' past have been German fanboys in sheep's clothing. As for the rest of us, there's only about 6-8 true Lexus fans left here. Are we that threatening to you all?

@ answer,

Fanboys deserve to be publicly insulted! Ignoring any problem has not and will never be the answer. Even when I rip into a d-bag, whether on this site or another, I do keep in mind that they are passionate about something. But when one has a blatant bias without properly supporting that view, they need to be corrected. The unfortunate part is that you have to get their attention some kind of way, even if it deemed inappropriate.
Besides, there's enough ignorance in this world. I sure as hell don't want to be bothered when I doing something that I enjoy, like reading up on the latest car news and engaging others in an intelligent and informed debate. And if I'm wrong, then I can be open to learn something new.

Simply put, fanboys don't offer any of that which makes them useless and unbearably annoying.

I respect lexus. I hate their products, but I respect them. What wrong with learning from others mistakes? Thats the smartest way of doing it.

Fact:

The IS-F might not be your first choice for a performance car, but it's not a POS either.

Fact:

Nobody is forcing anyone to buy an IS-F.

So why is there constantly such bitter hate expressed towards the damn Lexus?

I'd prefer an S class over an A8, but that doesn't mean the A8 sucks, and I sure wouldn't go out of my way to say it does either.

And don't say it's because of all the stupid Lexus fanboys. Your amped up rebuttles only encourage them, and there are plenty of German-only badge whores to even them out.

This whole site would be far better if people focused their time and effort discussing things they like, and not the things they don't.

Very good point. The problem occurs when certain posters or possers pan other brands without any knowledge of facts just sophomoric tribble. No one brand is perfect. Passion for the brand is great. That is what differentiates them from plebian volume cars. But, keep it real. Don't assume opinions as facts.

Even if you can't stand Lexus, think they don't do anything worthy of your respect, and just suck all around, you have to appreciate them.

Why?

Because they prevent every luxury car buyer from buying the same damn things.

Every so-called "crap" ES350 on the road helps preserve the specialness of Benz's C class and so on.

This is a comment on the commercials and the commercials only:

"F" is for 15 seconds of another f'n annoying tv commercials when I just paid $9.50 to see a movie in a movie theater!

(Think we can file a class-action suit against movie theaters, advertising agencies, movie companies and corporations for forcing us to watch mindless tv commercials in a movie theater when we just paid hard earned money to see a movie!?)
