Breaking: BMW to exit the Formula 1 at the end of this year?

Breaking news: Several publications across the world announced that BMW’s future in Formula 1 races is in serious doubt.

The rumors are that tomorrow a press conference was called at the BMW Headquarters in Munich where the main topic will be “‘current developments in motor sport.”

The press conference will be hosted by Dr. Norbert Reithofer, CEO of BMW, Dr. Klaus Draeger, the director for development, and Mario Theissen, BMW Motorsport director. Such an impressive line-up might lead to an important announcement. There is also another rumor going around that Robert Kubica will replace Felipe Massa at Ferrrari at the end of this season.

BMW entered the new F1 season with high expectations after a previous round where the cars and drivers performance has improved, but unfortunately the current season has been a cruel disappointment to them and and their fans.

Mitchell,

BMW has won F1 races, while Toyota has not won any races. Toyota is at the bottom of the heap when it comes to building Competitive F1 cars. Please do not equate Ferrari's F1 team with Toyota's. Toyota is uncompetitive in F1 while Ferrari (and BMW, Well maybe not this year) are competitive. Stop trying to imply something that simply isn't true. This year Toyota is having their best year ever in F1. They are 4th in the points out of 10 teams and they still haven’t won a single race yet. This despite being in F1 for about 8 years. LOL!!!

I didn't really like how my last post sounded.

Toyota has given a great effort towards F1. And even though Toyota haven't won a race its still an F1 car!!! And sometimes only a second or less off the laps of the best cars. There are only about 3 other brands that builds a faster race car than Toyota. And god knows how many brands in total that are out there? So Kudos to Toyota.

I would't want Toyota to leave F1. If Toyota does win we'll have to endure biblical levels of fanboy'ism. That would be the only down-side.

Hard to justify $250M per year to perform as poorly as they have. Add in the company's recent operating losses and the poor economic forecast and its not a very good picture.

Poorly this year. They were third overall in the constructor's championship last year and second in 2007. Like many teams this year they weren't aggressive enough in interpreting the new rules and they weren't able to improve the design enough through the season to be competitive.

Turbospyder, they were second in 2007 only becouse Mclaren was disqualified from constructor championship than. The longer the BMW is helping (to Sauber) in construction of car the worse are results. This year there are teams that hadn't this controversial diffuser and are doing well, Red Bull for example, Ferrari and McLaren were also doing quite well in last races. You may justify yourself everything how do you want but facts are facts.

yes but they, Mclaren and BMW were also at same level at the start of the year. But we have seen the improvements from Ferrari and Mclaren but BMW failed to move up the grid. So bad year and also ridiculous rules from FIA = BMW quitting F1. Won't be surprised to see another manufacturer joining them. Maybe Toyota.

anyway very sad news, more than Honda pulling out.

Yeah, the propellor speaks for itself alright, it screams "cheap leases".

I'm sure BMW sucking is 100% because they're a brand new team this year, just like every other year when they have to find a new partner.

If Toyota managed to get back into 3rd place, they'll probably stay in Formula1 just for bragging rights.
