Breaking News: Toyota in talks with Mazda to supply hybrid technology from Prius

Toyota is reportedly in negotiations to supply hybrid technology found in its Prius to Mazda.

This report insinuates that Mazda is shunning the hybrid system, which Ford is developing.

According further to The Nikkei, the talks for the agreement are in its final stages, under which Toyota will provide the key hybrid system components (battery, motor, and other electronics) to Mazda. Currently, Ford owns about 13.8% of Mazda. It is believed a Toyota-Mazda deal would allow Mazda more independence from Ford. Today, Toyota said that it would consider sharing its technology with other carmakers so as to improve global sales.

Just trying to be slick? Is that code for doing what's best for itself and not for other companies it competes against? What are you a communist? USA is based on free enterprise. How can you blame Toyota if other companies want its tech? No one is forcing anyone to deal with them.

Ford should be the Mazda Hybrid Powertrain provider here. I dont think Mr Mullaly is getting any rest tonight, as he is probably on the phone constanly working out a deal with Mazda for Future Focus Hybrid, and New Fusion Hybrid motors to be placed in Mazda 3 and Mazda 6.

They're are loads of hybrid and electric, motor and powertrain developers all over the world that have incredible ideas, and are just trying to break into the market with them. I don't see why they don't do an "X Prize" like competition for development of an independent system for mazda. You'd see them all come crawling out of the woodwork.

If they were to accept Toyota's system, there's no doubt they'd have to enter into an idiot agreement not to pursue hybrid drivetrains for a certain number of years. And by that time Toyota will have patented to perfect design, and then you're fk'd.

800over, I dont believe in the Laisez Faire Capitalism mixed with Corporatism in overdrive as you Conservatives believe in. That is also what destroyed this economy. Stubborness in mentality will only leave this country farther behind, and old ways of doing things in a new world will only leave this country behind. We want to use 1909 sytle economics to solve 2009 world problems. Lets admit the truth, our way of doing things is outdated, and hurts us as a nation even more than spending trillions of dollars in tax payers money that we can earn back, and not only earn back but earn back with interest.

Companies should be held accountable for their actions and companies should be forced to have competition. Iam for the controlled Socialist Free Market system, in which most countries in the world we compete with ie: Japan Germany, EU, China follow.

Speaking about controlled Socialist Free Market Systems. Where is the Japanese Government at in picking the tab up for Mazda with the Hybrid Development Bill?

What in the world is 'Controlled socialists free market system". What a load. True capitalism creates competition which is good. The capitalistic system does hold corps accountable. Consumers have the largest voice with there spending dollar. Today Our capitalistic system is has been infected with social crap and the largest trend in complaisant attitudes. bfghemicuda, if the capitalistic system holds corps. accountable, then how do you explain the steaming pile of crap that is out healthcare system, where not a single insurer is held accountable for anything. They can set their own prices. Deny anyone who might be a liability. Hike rates whenever they want. It's s***. It's like a game of kickball back in grade school: I want him because I see the greatest return on my pick. That other guy sucks, and I don't want him playing.

I'm not saying the care sucks, but I think it's a total crock of s*** that I have to pay an insurance company monthly premiums only for them to tell me, "we don't cover that medication"; "we don't cover that procedure." F*** capitalism in this regard. It creates "creative" greed.

There's certainly nothing socialist about our healthcare system.

bmw8ter I understand what your saying about current healthcare and this is a tuff one in the fact that I wouldnt want to try to shop around for the cheapest spine surgeon. My comment was mainly aimed at durable goods. As far as healthcare is concerned I have a handicaped daughter and the Ins Co won't touch her so I share in your frustration.

Maybe Mazda should just wait for Hyundai to finish copying synergydrive and then get it off of them for a cheaper price?

How come Hyundai, Samsung and other Korean conglomorates/fiefdoms were not held accountable during the Asian currency crisis where Uncle Sam got the IMF to pump in money to stabilize everyone's currencies?

As for China, bet you didn't know that when you buy a piece of property there, you have to return it to the gov't after 70years as your investment is just considered a land lease from "the people".
Germany's system works great, they're becoming second tier in more and more areas everyday.

Now we get to Obama and his gov't TARP intervention. Gotta love how GoldmanSachs got all those billions when they didn't need them to snap up hugely undervalued money assets, now they've given back the money they used and are paying out billions in bonuses.
Like I said, leave the crisis alone and it'll straighten itself out within 18months. Failure creates opportunity, something GoldmanSachs took full advantage of because of your "controlled socialist free market system". I'm sure your "socialist GoldmanSachs supporter" cheque is in the mail.

Thats just insane thinking... If tarp was not in place hundreds of thousands would have lost thier job, and with less and less of the people working WHO can start a viable business (banking aside) that would thrive during those times? An economy is just like a garden it must be regulated and tended to. You cant grow a garden buy doing nothing at all.

Canada's banking system is fine becuase our gov't regulated it, not bailed it out. Our housing sales are back on the rise and our economy is expected to stay in the black for the remainder of the year and take off next year.

Let a few of the big boys fail then bring in regulations and see who dares stand up to it. Not give them free money and hope they behave. Look how many times GM/Ford/Chrysler had to be bailed out in the past 25 years and nothing changed.

Has the stimulus money even trickled down to actually get any work started yet or is it being spent on paperwork?
