Bugatti Veyron is dethroned, in steps the SSC Aero TT
America’s Shelby Supercars (SSC) is now officially the manufacturer of the ‘World’s Fastest Production Car’ thanks to its Ultimate Aero Twin Turbo supercar. The 1183hp (882kW) speedster set a new top speed record with an average Vmax of 255.83mph (411.76km/h), 3.11mph (5.01km/h) faster than the unofficial record set by the Bugatti Veyron. In order for the achievement to be official under the Guinness World Records’ guidelines, a vehicle testing for the top speed record must race down the course, turn around, and make a second pass in the opposite direction within one hour. agreed, the aero is ugly anyway.

Seems to me the Veyron was designed and built to be over-the-top in every conceivable way. This car was simply built to be over-the-top in top end speed and ugly looks. They dont have much to brag about IMO.

America puts Europe in its place as usual.

Maybe the Veyron needs a 33 1/2 cylinder diesel.

Veyron = fat Beetle.

Have you seen the Veyron in real life? Let alone sat inside of it? Have you touched the fine leather or bouchonné trim? Have you listened to its Burmester soundsystem? HAVE YOU FELT ITS POWER?

I think not.

Now be quiet.

^^^why would I want too. It looks like a flatten VW Beetle. Now, A car that was better engineered from the getgo was the Maclern F1. It weighs half as much and has almost half the horsepower, yet it does 241 mph. And it handles and has better aero. Whereas Piech wanted the Bug to lok just like the Concept car (just like Mercedes wanted the production SLR to look just like the Concept) and both cars had severe aero problems. Which resulted in a massive re-engineering project. Which is why the Bug cost soo much, and why they are losing money for each one produced.

Close but no cigar.

The pheonomenal MacLaren F1 was a work of art for all time. However it was not the be all end all of vehicles. The aerodynamic factors that allowed it to reach those speeds were quite good. However saying a F1 handles...well in comparison to what because honestly that car loves to step its tail out at even low speeds. There are disadvantages to being too light when you start pushing the upper ranges of speed.

The other thing was you were correct that Piech wanted the specific car that he wanted and refused to compromise. He should be congratulated on that. Look at the Nardo concept then look at the F1 and the CCX and Lambo and the Vector M12, etc...they all are basically the same shape...a flying wedge of cheese.

To actually say to engineers and the bean counters that you want to make this balistic refigerator beat everything on the planet on a daily basis and drive like a GT("DAMN the price")...well that takes some cohones. So they come up with a design that has not been regurgitated from the old countach design like everyone else. Mind you I dont mind driving a cool piece of Parmesan down the road but if I were to park it next to piece of Romano, it would be lost in the crowd.

Now if I showed up in a brick of chocolate...

All in all the Areo TT should be congratulated for breaking 255mph. Thats one hell of a feat.

Personally I would rather take a Veyron because of its looks and GT charateristcs (you kidney's and lower back feel like hell after riding in a Ferrari for more than 30 min)...but hey that just my taste in vehicles...thats why we have so many to choose from.

(on a side note) I wonder why the Bugatti recieves so much hate from people since the F1 from what I can remember never was hated becuase it was the fastest production road car in the world

The McLaren F1's creator Gordon Murray said that the main goal for the F1 wasn't topspeed but pure handling and driver involvement.

He also said on paper the Veyron is a bit of a silly attempt, in other words it's too heavy or has too much this or that... BUT he drove it and was stunned.

Here is the article by the way:
http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=7&article_id=3075

Now apart from its looks (which look very Bugatti to me and nothing else) it is an engineering marvel. This SSC Aero supercharged turbo or whatever isn't. Not even close. From an engineering point of view it is the best car ever.

Records are made to be broken, big deal. I'm american and I don't understand the statement of "putting Europe in its place". What's that suppose to mean. One day we're all going to realize that we're all in this together.

I'm sure in the next few years someone will come out and beat the SSC's topspeed, but the magnificent Veyron was first. You can't take that away from them, and it will always be a legend regardless of what "made to order" kit car comes out and beats it by 2 mph's.

Everybody can make a car go fast. Just make a lightweight chassis with a carbon/fiberglass body and a big American V8 with some turbos with 6 speed transmission from the viper with long gears. Then do some windtunnel testing et voila!

honestly, the veyron is in a totally different league here. it has no competitors.

Ive seen videos of 400+ Km/h Toyota Supras at bonneville....Everything with good Aerodynamics and 1300+ HP can potentially do it. But can they handle that power in such a way as the Veyron ? Uhm...what do you think...nothing beats a Veyron overall.

As a pure adrenaline kicking driving machine, id have the F1 hands down. The engine sound in the F1 is mind blowing alone...

The Veyrons ace in the whole is for a car to be useable and approachable with that kind of HP. The Veyron can make up for bad driving with its numerous safety systems. IMO I still put the Mclaren F1 in much higher regard for its purity and ability to do 240 mph with only 627 hp. And as for American crap the Hennesy Viper decimates the Veyron in every performance category for much less money.

America is on the records books as being #1, it beat the Veryon's "unofficial" record so the Veyron couldn't even reproduce it's best performance.

Guess the Germans are all sitting in their basements trying to think of another way to convince everyone they're better than a bunch of truck driving hicks, truck driving hicks that can beat them in just about everything that is (except swan diving a.k.a. soccer)

But as I said before, Europeans talk it, Americans prove it.

Looks like crap but this thing matches the S7 TT's 230mph.
http://www.spacemart.com/reports/Japan_Creates_The_Worlds_Fastest_Electric_Sedan.html

And it's electric (the world must be coming to an end).

100yen per 100km. That's about $1/100km.

Autounion (Audi) had 400 Km/h racecars back in the 30´s (read up on how the director died at almost 240 mph on public roads..) ...what does that prove ? Nothing else than good aerodynamics and huge supercharged engines. The fact that you are ignoring all posts and just continue to ramble shows your point..
