Burn Bimmer Burn - Man Burns BMW to Protest High Gas Prices
A man in Germany has poured gasoline over his BMW and set it on fire to protest high fuel prices.  The 1995 3-Series was driven by a 30-year old man onto the Frankfurt Convention Center lawn and lit on fire.

Not wanting to be sarcastic or anything, but how much did the gas used to burn the car cost, which resulted in a complete loss of the vehicle, and how much is insurance going to increase as a result of this clear case of automotive arson.

To add insult to injury, the man now faces potential financial penalties as well as jail time.  Sounds to me that this little stunt will end up costing a lot more than a tank of gas.

A special thanks to user mmm333 for the tip on the story, click through to read the full article.

Excuse me, but that picture is not of Germany. An American school bus with an American cop car are not common in Germany. Plus the freeway does not look like an Autobahn. So, what gives?

Lenkun, I don't trust you because you are dead wrong and obviously don't know your BMW's.

It's an E38 7-Series.

lenkun ... I work for BMW and it is a 7-series .. Can tell by the wheels and the longated side profile of the car + headlights. The BMW 5-series never had a headlight construction like the car in the picture ... end of story

Lenkun is an idiot. That is obviously a 7 series. The turn signals and grills on the old 5 series were much smaller. Even more the shear size of that car tells us that its a 7 series.
Beyond that the old 7 series was before the Bangle years.
Get your facts right Lenkin.

lenkun, that's a 7-Series. And I never knew European police used Crown Vic's, or that European plates had "California" across the top. My how times have changed in Europe since I was there.

It's a 3-series cleverly disguised to resemble a late 90s 7er.

What impresses me is how they were able to make the Frankfurt Convention Center lawn look (almost) exactly like a certain Reseda (north LA) freeway that I dont know well at all.

CLEVER!! Lenkun must have been the design consultant for this photo-op.

I never got these idiots!?! Burning one car puts out more pollution than that car would even produce in a life time. Perhaps several cars, but they still do it.

If you are going to do this AT LEAST put out signs so peeps know why. Chalk this up to another d1ckhead looking for attention...

Your humble Agent knew the picture he posted was not of the actual car talked about in the story. I could not find a BMW 3-Series burning on the lawn of the Frankfurt Convention Center, as such I posted a picture of a BMW (7-Series) burning. This particular BMW is on a California freeway.

Cut me a little slack!

exactly. a SMART europhile woulda used DIESEL.

nothing beats diesel/kerosene for starting fires!

0 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
Actually lots of stuff does. Diesel is useless for starting fires, you can put a burning torch on a puddle of diesel and it won't catch.

ChicaneShooterChicaneShooter - 6/29/2008 5:09:50 AM
+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
gasoline is equally "useless." you can toss a match into a bucket of gasoline and it would JUST GO OUT.

it is gasoline VAPOR that is volatile. heavy diesel/kerosene, while not as volatile, WILL MAKE whatever it wets, highly flammable.

I supposed there are lots of idiots out there...

Burn a BMW because you are paying too much for gas? So he will have to go out and spend more money to replace a car? and get minimal differences in what he pays for gas? I mean, people think that it makes a huge difference...

You get a car with 25mpg v. 30 mpg, its not that big of a difference. Perhaps a dollars (a few as in 2-3)at the pump...

I bet there was some insurance benefits behind this. I mean, who goes out and says "hmm, I think I'll set my car on fire to prove a point". Obviously this isn't going to lower gas prices.

This whole "protest high fuel prices" is a cover up though... just looks like a case of the frustrated BMW owner needing a reason to torch his bimmer.
