When BMW made the announcement of the creation of the all-new 4-Series that wasn't all-new at all — it's just a 3-Series, really — we knew a couple of things: There would be a 4-Series Gran Coupe, and there existed a slight chance that BMW would build an M4 Gran Coupe.

It's pretty textbook, actually, considering the Bavarians already did so with the M6 Gran Coupe.

There's just one difference: the 4-Series Gran Coupe isn't all that easy on the eyes. Though I'll be the first to admit that upon first sight at the 2014 New York Auto Show I didn't find it that bad, it still wasn't getting a scratch and sniff sticker from me. It's passable, for me. But is passable something you really want to say about your ride?

Of course the passable 4GC was sporting a dark blue paint job and was decked out with the M Sport kit. Those are the best ways to throw off a pair of eyes.

According to what we're reading on the web, this is what BMW CEO, Dr. Norbert Reithofer said on a conference call:

“The new BMW 4 Series Convertible came out in March. In June, following the Coupe and Convertible, the third model in the new 4 series will be launched: the Gran Coupe. And for those customers who enjoy an even sportier drive, the M version will be available in September. Two further new M models are the BMW M3 Sedan and the BMW M4 Coupe, both available as of June.”

So, the question has to be asked: IF you were investing in a BMW M3/M4, would it be the SEDAN, COUPE or GRAN COUPE? Let us know in the comments below.

Look out for the M4 Gran Coupe to bow come September.
