Cadillac Escalade Hybrid info leaked early
Although the official announcement and first showing of the Cadillac Escalade Hybrid will be Friday in Miami, the embargo has been broken already by TTAC, the truth about cars (gotta love the internet!).
They are saying the Tahoe, Yukon and Escalade hybrids will cost AT LEAST 13k more than their gasoline brethren.
The hybrid Caddy will feature a 6.0-liter V-8 Gen IV gasoline engine with Active Fuel Management (AFM) and late-intake valve closing (LIVC) technology, a 300-volt nickel-metal hydride Energy Storage System (ESS), an advanced electrically variable transmission (EVT) with stop - start technology, a regenerative braking system, a new exhaust system and resonator, an electrically driven, 300-volt air conditioning compressor, and an electrically driven 42-volt variable-assist power steering system.

For 13k one would be smarter to simply buy a base model Suzki SX4 and leave this Gas-Guzzling/Over-Priced Behemouth in the Garage!

what self respecting (hetero) man would drive a suzuki????
For an extra $13k, I'd just buy a regular gasoline engine Escalade ESV and have some type of customized leather & suede with cashmere carpeting interior treatment done.

deboosting??? I told the truth! The Suzuki SX4, or whatever it's called is for girly men.

What a waste of hybrid engineering. Spend hundreds of thousands of hours carefully designing the drivetrain and then throw it all away with something that has giant tires and the aerodynamics of a parachute.
I'm guessing their not going to be running any ad copy on the weight of it, either.

Regular Escalade looks great, but 13k more? That'll push the base price into the 70k price range right?

Here in Las Vegas... Land of the Dealer Mark-Up...
More like the 80k range!

That's ridiculous. GL320 CDI, anyone? $55K, and it drives significantly better, looks better, is better-built and gets much better mileage than this.

I'll agree with drives better and built better, but nothing short of a Range Rover tops the Escalade's styling in this segment.

See I think the Escalade's styling is a cheap attempt at luxury.
And the interior sucks.
Do you know how much it shares with cheap Holdens and Opels? Half the dashboard is identical to a cheap Australian sedan. And I actually mean identical, the top of the dash with the speakers set in it is the same. And the door linings like sack cloth, so rough and scratchy...the fake wood, the cheap buttons, the hard plastic, brittle surfaces, that bizarre steering wheel, fake leather everywhere...and it's absolutely huge...why anyone would buy the Escalade over a GL or LX570, both of which have great interiors and are far more luxurious I don't know...

The Escalade is gorgeous. Say what you will about the interior, but the exterior styling is a home run.
I like the MB GL, but the LX570 is just hideous on the outside.
I like the Escalade's interior. It may not be up to the standards of Europeans and other girly men, but it's comfortable and it's plush. Also, an Escalade costs more than a GL470, so cheap isn't the right word for it.

Did you mean GX470 or GL450?
Anyway, no, it's not inexpensive. But it is cheaply built. That's the difference. In essence, that equates to it being overpriced.
The Escalade is cool-looking, yes, but the GL550 is even more obnoxiously stylish--and it's the same price that this hybrid is going to be. So why not?

i meant GL450, but it probably costs more than a GX470, too. To each his own.
the LX570 is so ugly, i would need to blindfold myself until i got into it and closed the door if i owned one.
I would gladly buy an Escalade, a Denali, or even a Suburban instead.

the escalade is just a chromed-out tahoe. the tahoe would be better suited or better yet, what S4 and rupert suggested (LX and GL)

pushrod, please stop, I don't want a huge car, LOL. You're giving us a bad image.
I would rather have a Denali than an Escalade, but I'd rather not buy a GM SUV. I like many of their new products and feel that they're the most progressive of the Big 2.6--but a GL450 would be better. AND it's less expensive than the base 'Slade.

I know the LX570 is as band as the box it comes in, but I would have one over an Escalade anyday.
And it being so big...it may be good in the US (because everyone in America knows that a bigger truck makes you more successful attractive and virile man) but here in Europe it doesn't fit in a standard parking space, nor in normal multi-storey car parks, nor through many width restrictors designed to stop lorries going down roads.
And it's more expensive than a GL? Yet it has that god awful interior (Which is most certainly not plush)!! Could it be any more of a rip off??
I think you believing that good interiors are for girly men and Europeans sums up your opinions on cars.

S4cabriofoxone, I would have sworn you were from Europe. Thats very interesting. Anyways, Rupert, what the hell does Europe look like if a "Full Size" SUV cant fit in your garages or parking lots? I cant believe that... Also, I know some might not like the Escalade but you cant sit here and say that its an "UGLY" vehicle because that it is not...

Caddyman - that's the thing, Full-size SUVs are few and far between. Land cruiser, Range Rover, GL...that's it really, unless you count the Disco and Q7.
For the record, a typical (there's no standard I was wrong) parking bay is 2.4m x 4.8 m...an Escalade measures roughly 2 x 5.2...nearly half a metre too long to fit and with only 0.2 metres of space to open the doors...not good.
Average height restrictions in car parks range from 1.8 metres to sometimes 2 metres, and an Escalade is 1.88 metres high.
For comparison a Q7 is 0.2 metres shorter, 10 cm narrower and 10 cm lower.
Honestly, Europe looks crowded. As for private garages, many houses with garages in Britain were built in the 1930's and so only have enough space for an Austin 7 or similar (very very small car). Ford Focuses have trouble getting in those. Cities are a lot older here, the roads came after the city, so space is tight. We physically can't drive these big cars around, hence smaller cars are a lot more popular. Even wealthy people generally have a "shopping car" to drive around town in, it used to always be a Golf, now it's an A3, A class or 1 series. Just take what you drive and scale a size down ie American family Camry
European family Corolla
American family GL
European family ML
American 5 series
European 3 series
etc etc.

This is crazy. An Escalade diesel should not cost more than $2,000 over gasoline, weigh and consume less than a hybrid... GM is the king of backward engineering.

don't blame GM, blame the consumers. They only give people what they want. Despite the advantages of diesel, Americans just don't like it, and those that want to be green are absolutely intoxicated by Toyota's hybrids.

So, a co-worker's 2007 Escalade gets around 12mpg (mixed mode driving), so I'd estimate this will achieve around 16mpg... WOW!

LMAO!!!...when they came out with "Mild Hybrid" for their Saturn Vue,,,for an extra $2,000.00, I knew it from the start based on their R&D cost of developing a full scale hybrid that it would be a price tag of at least 10K...too bad GM as you continue to prove the level of poor engineering efficiency within yourself, that in turn, the only way to re-coupe some cost is to rip off your own consumer...you white-collar bastards!!!...still making those poor executive decisions...LMAO!!!

Bad reporting !!!!! It won't be $13k higher. It will be priced about $5k higher than a fully loaded model, due to the high content level. Same thing with Tahoe/Yukon hybrid

There are so many parallels between the arguments here and arguments that have been had over the Lexus LS600hL that it's downright scary! lol.
This Escalade is a LUXURY HYBRID, not an ECONOMY HYBRID.
Hybrids are going to be serving more purposes to more demographics of car-buyers than just economy car buyers.
