Cadillac to turn up the heat on the competitors

The last five years have seen a remarkable turnaround in the fortunes of General Motors’ Cadillac division. To maintain momentum through 2006, the brand is shifting into higher gear by launching a series of new products.

Leading the charge is the new generation of the Escalade, arguably the vehicle that helped put Cadillac back on the map. As well as this just-released luxury SUV, two new high performance V-series editions enter showrooms this summer, the supercharged XLR-V and STS-V. Both V models stake out new territory for Cadillac, the STS being the most powerful Cadillac ever offered, and the XLR being the quickest and the most expensive - at $100,000.

The Escalade won't be the coolest vehicle when the M-B GL450 hits the market. Cadillac's sedans are really ugly (even compared to BMW) and the XLR convertible is rarer than an apology from the Bush administration. So where's the big resurgence?

Cadillac can't even be tops in luxury sales in its home market, at a time when Lincoln flounders, so again what resurgence?

Because, the Caddy goes after the SL, and is a GT not a full on sports car. The caddy only has the Covette's chassis, not its engine, plus is more luxurous. The caddy should have been priced around the same as the Lexus SC430, becuase there is not much comsumer confidence in a Caddy that starts around 75K. For that amount of money, the XLR should have aluminum body panels, not fiberglass.

update their interiors, drop the XLR (good call, JT), update the CTS and put the 505 hp V8 from the Z06 in the V version. Plus, while making marginal changes here and there they could possibly have a shot at more market share.
