Cadillac version of the Volt hybrid in the works
We reported yesterday that GM is working on a small 4-cylinder Cadillac sedan for the U.S. by 2010. But that’s not the only ‘green’ model coming from Cadillac.

According sources that spoke with Automotive News, GM is considering a Cadillac model that will share Chevrolet Volt’s plug-in hybrid technology. There is no confirmation whether Volt’s plug-in hybrid system will find its way into an existing Cadillac model or a brand-new dedicated model.

Either way GM will try to extract 40 miles on electric power alone...

IMO, it will probably be a dedicated electric model: volt body re-skinned and re-badged with an up market interior.

IMO, Cadillac will probably sell tons of them, claiming that "freedom from the pump" as a luxury item (which it is), citing how quiet it runs (silent drivetrain), citing how much low end torque it has, etc.

They will sell well....

Commence the traditional GM re-badging. They gotta start re-couping all that R&D money spent on the Volt every way they can. We'll probably see a Saturn and Pontiac version of the Volt over the next few years also.

Interestingly, I think that the Cadillac badge doesn't look that bad on the Volt (esp. the concept).

And this might be a re-badged, but there are gonna be some obvious differences. This car is probably gonna be as good as simply sharing a good technology rather than pretending to be something.

GOOD JOB incorporating that technology, hopefully it will look sweet and aggressive and not like the POS looking prius and new honda hybrid.
