Can Hyundai Expand On The Success Of The Genesis To Create A New Image?

When I first saw the 2009 Hyundai Genesis, I thought it looked nice in a nondescript sort of way.

There's no badge embossed on the grille, but its shoulders are wide and there's a sense of power to it.

But when I parked on the street in Chicago, it seemed everyone walked by it, smiling, nodding in approval, stopping by to tell me how nice the car was. Honestly, I wasn't expecting that kind of reaction.

Standing in the middle of Koreatown on the north side of the Windy City may have had something to do with the reactions, but they were right.

The new top dog for the South Korea-based company takes on the likes of Mercedes and Lexus with considerable aplomb.

They might be able to compete with brands like Honda, Toyota, and Nissan, which is and should be there target market.

What they should have done is invested in creating another brand (Maybe name Genesis with some alphanumerics) And went after Acura (easy target), Infiniti, and Lexus.

Honestly I can't recall, wasn't it Hyundai beating the Nissan Versa being the cheapest car available in the US or Kia ?

In order to move "upmarket" they'd have to move axe all of their econo models as no high soc people will ride in the same make as a $9,000.

I saw the car at the New England Auto Show last week, and to be honest I was impress. It does look great, has nice presence.
The inside was great too, good seats, nice layout.

I always ask myself, if I had the money would I buy it?
In the 35K range I would take it over the A4(I have a family)
Over the new TL(definitely, one ugly looking car)
Over the new Maxima?(not sure, would investigate more)
Over the 3series or C-Class(again too small for my needs)

And I believe there is a nice and long warranty that comes with it.

I would wait and see how it does in the resale quality department, but overall like I said I left the show impress by the car.

I don't know if they can revise the Hyundai brand image but the Genesis is the halo car for this company. Most consumers won't view Hyundai as a contender but I do. I believe everyone should be given a chance and Lexus was built from scratch so I think if Hyundai creates a subsidiary brand it can build from there. However, it will take years of great marketing, quality control, and appealing designs to accomplish this. Not an easy task but it can be done, anything's possible. That's why I never say never even though it's just a "Hyundai".

I can see the deboosts coming!
