In an age where auto-makers around the world are drastically cutting production, closing factories and focusing on greener more economical cars, one company is going against the grain.

Cue the Lexus and the IS-F. This four door 5.0l super sedan released back in 2007 was originally slated for only 500 units per year, but its success here in Japan has seen waiting lists grow and now, building off its success,

Best Car reports that a face lift is in line for this ‘family sedan’. Albeit an all black carbon lighter wider one.

You have got to be kidding me that an IS-F is going to be around $200,000. I think this is just an internet rumor.

And which crown is this headline referring to? The M3's crown? The M5's crown? For either, it is pretty sad that it takes a $200k IS-F to dethrone the $55k M3 sedan (base) and $86k M5. It is even worse that from a pure performance numbers standpoint, the CTS-V did this already at a starting price of $60k.

david, but why be "almost" as good? Why would I spend literally the SAME cash for an IS-F when I could get the class-leading M3 with free maintenance for 4 years? Did you know that BMW just ranked 3rd in initial quality? Now which car has better resale? Yeah, that would be the M3. If you feel better bragging that a $175k IS-F will embarrass a $60k M3, realize that I could get 3 of them or 2 M5s for the same price.

Which BMW would that be, Star? Would that be my 2008 535i that has been towed into the shop 3 times in the last 4 weeks? Would that be my BMW that is being lemoned by BMW because they can't fix the problems? Yeah, great car. I always have and will love BMW for what it is, and awesome driving machine. But the reliability is now the pits. I'm not the only one having major problems with this new twin turbo engine of theirs either.

I am speaking from my own experience. My car is going back to BMW this week as a lemon. Am I still getting a new BMW? Yes. I'm getting an X5. Am I a fan of Lexus? No. Never have been and never will be. But I wouldn't say their reliability is better than Honda. Show me the proof! You BMW fan bois drive me freaking nuts! With that price I can have the best of the world : M3 coupe for the track and C63 Sedan for fun and drifting and cruise. I won´t consider the ISF evo at all, not for that money. In tha case I prefer tu buy a CLK Black Series or and R8. Please this ridiculos money for ISF...only a blind person could spend that money for a car like that.

I'm sure by now Lexus is bent on going after BMW first and then they'll go after Merc and Caddy, the boys with the big HP numbers which isn't a real challenge to them right now like BMW is. Lexus is a phenomenom, like it's parent company Toyota and they love challenges that take strategic patience. They like to strip their competitions passion away little by little with very little loss of cash. Oh and of course we'll see more of this now that heir Akio Toyoda is now President of Toyota Motor Corp. This guy is extremely competitive and is the driving force behind the LF-A and IS-F enforcement. So, get ready for some very serious high performance cars coming from the Lexus camp. It's not a matter of if but, when...and when it happens, remember you haters have been forewarned.

You and your Toyota fanboy friends were warning Autospies readers that the IS-F was going to crush the M3 BEFORE it even came out. Then it came out and it has consistently been bested by the M3 (which remains the benchmark). There is more to producing a performance car than endless hype.

Anyone who wants to charge well north of $100K for a vehicle needs to be ready to compete with the Big Boys (Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin, etc) in terms of performance, quality, luxury, heritage, and snob appeal. I'd guess that the IS-F Evo falls short in more than one of these categories. It sounds more like it will be yet another "excellent car for the money" (about $60-70K) but not really put any pressure on the true performance/luxury market ($120K+).

Didn't read the article. Front is ugly though. If this car has good performance, just drop it into a normal IS-F and leave it at that. Some people like having power without showing it off except when its needed to put some loser leasee in their place.
