This 2012 M5 was traveling at a top speed (approximately 186mph/300kmh) when the driver lost control of the car as he braked and swerved to avoid a car. As the driver of the M5 swerved to avoid a car which joined the highway aggressively (without noticing the oncoming BMW), the M5 struck the divider, bounced off and shot across the highway, where it flipped several times on the grass at the side of the A81. You'll note that the M5 doesn't appear to have a sunroof. I wonder how much of a difference it would have made if it did, in a rollover accident such as this?— AlleVier (View Profile)

"The car which cut off the M5 did not stop and fled the scene of the accident". What a DIRTBAG!, I wish they find this individual and hang him.— USNA1999 (View Profile)

Positive probabilities are more when you driven a well build high quality product, you have more option taking care of you on those impredictables moments. Thank God this person is safe.— pepito66 (View Profile)

Well, when you drive a better built car you probably will feel more safe to do such stupid things like driving with 186 mph on a highway... :)— muzx (View Profile)

The M3 and M6 has been driven by the sons of the driver of the M5 who was a 60 years old guy with a 20 years old passanger and a dog. His sons stopped and started to extinguish the fire.— muzx (View Profile)

Im glad the ppl survived the accident. I see part of the money spent went to a good durable safety structure. I do have a few qualms tho. Why do they call this the Ultimate Drving Machine? Yes they do drive and ride good at good fast and safe driving but when u track these cars or car reviewers do its like these cars cant handle it. Any time you use that slogan, "Ultimate driving machine" you better back it up. BMW failed miserably this time in one of its flagship ultimate driving machines. It constantly gets beat on skidpad by Infiniti and even front wheel drive Acuras and if anybody wants to argue we can bring articles here to the fight. Plus I have owed acuras, BMW's, Lexii and Volvo's and have also sold high end cars for years. The secret in the industry is that german cars are a waste of money esp. the maintenace. These brands will keep doing this shit if the ppl stay brainwashed and poney up money for inferior products. As much as Acura gets dogged on this board, it is the brand that is third in reliability, all 5 star safety records, can beat BMW on skidpad with front wheel drive, Best AWD sys on the planet, top resale value etc.Dont get me wrong I do like the way BMW's look and the prestige but when one wakes up out of the darkness and sees the light, most of the time it aint worth it!!— KingRA (View Profile)

You are a complete tool. Infiniti and Acura? It is amazing that the guy is alive. A crash at 185+ mph is an unbelievable amount of force placed upon your body and the car. Even if the car did not hit any major structure, the odds that the roof of the car or that the interior passengers are still alive is about 1 to 2% of the time. I hope that they are okay. — BMW4me4ever (View Profile)

Skidpad numbers and a car keeping its composure during quick left to right transitions, and constant feedback to the driver so he knows he is approaching the limits rather than being caught off guard makes it an ultimate driving machine. not some stupid numbers from someone driving constantly in a circle until the tires lose grip. Lets see how tose cars that beat it on the skidpad do against it on a track or road coarse. the BMW will eat Acura and Infinity for lunch every time. The X5M has a low skidpad score but spanks anything from Acura and Infinity around a track, and its a big heavy SUV!— 85bmw745i (View Profile)

If he would come with sensible speed the joining driver could recognize him in time. How often you have to deal with oncoming vehicles speeding 185 mph?Actually, this survival was rather a result of good luck then a car safety, he didn't hit any stiff object directly. Of course, kudos to BMW for building safe cars it's great to see that at least the passengers life saved although they are in hospital with severe injuries (that fact is unfortunately missing).— muzx (View Profile)

If you bothered to look you will notice that the Motorway has at least 3 lanes. You are supposed to join the Motorway ONLY IN THE 1st LANE and only when you are sure that it is safe to do so should you change lanes into a faster one.Unfortunately i have on many occasions seen people join a Motorway and swing straight into the middle lane without bothering to check if it is safe to do so.My Usual policy when somebody does that in front of me is to overtake them, get directly in front, then slam on my brakes to scare the living daylight out of them or throw a snapple bottle out the sunroof to smash their windscreen.I do not accept ignorance as a reason to cause the death of others, if you endanger my life through blissful Self-Absorption, then i am fully within my rights to endanger yours through unrestrained intolerance.— I95SPEEDINGTICKETS (View Profile)

Kudos to BMW. 186mph crash and every one lived, and the car is still intact. Real world testament to The Ultimate Driving Machine. One of the reasons they weigh about the same as an ocean liner. If someone is looking for a premium and safe car, I would recommend BMW 10 out of 10 times. Someone earlier on this forum mentioned that the lights are still on, even though the battery supposed to disconnect automatically in an accident. Well you are right, it supposed to do just that, but it only kills power to the engine and cut the fuel supply. It does however still send power to the lights, even turn them on if they were off, so that the EMS or whoever is helping can easily spot it. Finally I wish all involved in the accident a speedy and full recovery. — ABMIZR78 (View Profile)
