Conventional wisdom would say that a 4,800-pound SUV couldn’t possibly get 27 miles per gallon of fuel. Well now, it can, with diesel power of course. Thecarlounge poster Huckvw caught some Mercedes-Benz R and ML 320 CDIs leaving the factory. The EPA sticker on the ML 320 CDI said that it gets 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. The gasoline powered ML 350 is rated at 16 city and 20 highway. Now that is a great fuel economy improvement, with very little loss in performance.
