The S8's $110,895 base sticker is $29,100 more than a V-8 powered A8.

Purchase decisions in this class rarely hinge on price, but the S8 starts at tens of thousands less than a BMW Alpina B7 or a Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG, cars it outguns both in raw performance and behind-the-wheel enjoyment. Whether driving it like it's the chase car in Ronin or cutting a low profile, the S8 has a mechanical arsenal that allows it to run with almost anything on the road. Kudos to Audi for the calibration of their transmission for quick launches. Beyond 60mph and the 1/4 mile, the S63 will overtake it. Not a bad thing considering most countries don't have Autobahns.

It's amazing how they are able to do so without actually doing so.

S600: 0-60 in 4.6 1/4 mile in 13.1 @ 107.9
S63 AMG: 0-60 in 4.3 and 1/4 mile in 12.6 @ 116.4
S65 AMG: 0-60 in 4.3 and 1/4 mile in 12.6 @ 116.1

B7 Alpina: 0-60 in 4.3 and 1/4 mile in 12.6 @ 113.6

S8: 0-60 in 3.5 and 1/4 mile in 11.8 @ 118.3

Of course, the current cars aren't quite there. Wait for the updated S-class to make a comparison, not compare a 3+ year old design.

Not denying that the next S63 and S65 AMG will be a bit quicker (perhaps quicker than the current S8) but in a few years the S8 can be updated as well.

Currently there is no big sedan that traps higher stock as far as I am aware.

Why is it that people have such intense hatred for the simple truth ?

The simple truth is that "Right Now" Audi has a seriously fast limo in the S8, all that nonsense about MB and BMW is irrelevant.

When the new 7-Series is launched i have no doubt it will probably have a variant which is faster, for now they don't.

Same for MB.
