Car thieves target Audi in Australia over BMW's
Bragging rights in Australia will surely be even more highly contested in light of the recent arguments between execs from BMW and Audi out there.
This story also comes hot on the heels of Audi being named best manufacturer for car security in the 2007 British Insurance Car Security Awards.
That award said that Audi had the most comprehensive theft protection of any company in Britain. Well in Australia the thieves have found a way to bypass the defenses.
A direct quote from the study by Suncorp states that Australian thieves tend to like to steal higher priced vehicles regardless of the deterrants.
"The most stolen vehicles were those in the $60,000 to $100,000 bracket, despite the fact that these have better theft protection."
I guess their is a market for high end car parts out there.

If BMW was name 1st - you would probably tell us how it only makes sense because BMW's are the most desirable vehicle.

It's two separate things. The award was given in Britain for anti-theft features. This article is about Australia - which when you read the article they clearly state that the thieves don't care how much security are on the vehicles - they are stealing them anyway.

the biggest problem here in australia is the car jackings...they simply bump you in the behind, you both get out, and boom theyve taken off in your RS6 or CLK...

that said its no where near as bad as other countries like south africa
