It looks and sounds like a sport car, period. Let's wait until its tested to see how it performs too. At least its MUCH better looking that the ugly M6, and much futuristic than the Porsche. Although, I like the Porshes, but everything has a limit and they need to change their looks for God's sake.

It will have 570 hp not 500 hp, and 0-60 below 4 seconds. There was an article about the Lexus LF-A stats posted here last month.

Stop dreaming lexus, it will have only 500hp.

570hp? When did that news come out? If this will have 570hp that would be awesome.

SupraNeverBackSupraNeverBack - 7/9/2007 3:56:28 PM
+7 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
570hp is R&T's inside information.

Think about it, F1-derived 9,000+rpm 5.0L v10, plus some civilized but advanced techniques like dual vvt-i, valvematic, direct injections etc., 570 hp estimate is too conservative.
Even the 1,000rpm lower BMW 5.0L v10 has 500hp

But Lexus always is limited by its responsible power philosophy to avoid gas guzzler tax as possible. So it will not be surprised if the LF-A is limited to ~550hp only.

i heard 950hp and 0-60 in 2.7 seconds.

There was an article posted up here several weeks ago, do a search.

Think about, it only make sense to 570hp instead of 500 hp, if they truly planning to play with the big boys. Since this LF-A is aimming a Ferrari and Lambo, remember.

I don't think it would make much difference if it had 700hp. It still won't be in the same class as other true sportscars/exotics in terms of driving dynamics (steering feel, handling, suspension, etc.). It's like comparing a IS350 with the new BMW 3-series or comparing an AMG Mercedes to a Ferrari. If you want a real sports car, get one.

No, we will just have to wait till it's confirmed by the press. I'm opining here, like everyone else. However, look at 335i vs. IS350. The IS isn't even a shadow of what the BMW is. It's the honest truth. If you can't feel a difference in the driving dynamics you need to take the mittens off your hands, the earmuffs off your ears, and the full-body snow suit off your behind.

As an automotive engineer, I've worked on several racing V10 engines. I can tell you, this Lexus/Toyota/whatever V10 is the real thing. I can tell just from listening that this motor is derived from the Toyota F1 V10 of which year I don't know but it will deliver phenomenal performance. This car will be more than competitive to the Porsche GT3 RS and the Corvette Z06. Well done Lexus/Toyota engineers.

You give Lexus too much credit 06gs300. I think your statement, "BMW fanbois are foaming at the mouth..." is a reflection of your own insecurity for you love of Toyota. The concoction is funny nonetheless and I always like a good laugh.

Buggatti better be worrying. The LF-A will destroy a Veyron. The LF-A will be the best sports-car ever made. Just like the NSX was. Too bad nobody purchased the NSX because it didn't have any chest hair. The NSX was Kinda like McGyver. It could do everything but doesn't have any chest hair.

Bugatti Veyron (worlds fastest stock car) getting beaten by a Supra on steroids? Won't happen.

Cars competing in this segment need prestige, racing heritage, and need to be FUN TO DRIVE.

LF-A will fail, just like NSX.

And btw- the LFA will not fail like the NSX, much like the LS460 doesn't fail like the RL.

audirevolutionaudirevolution - 7/10/2007 3:29:15 PM
-4 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
mitch,

the LS460 succeeded because it was well known, and Lexus had much experiance in the field. The previous LS was successful as well. The RL was more "underground" and few knew about it. It never did well.

However, with no experiance in the super-car field, it will be very hard for Lexus to build a car that will match an M6.
Just look at the IS, does it match the 3? NO.
Does the GS match the 5? Close but no.

If they do, I'll give them props, but I highly doubt that will happen.

mitchatlexusofmarinmitchatlexusofmarin - 7/11/2007 5:30:00 PM
+3 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
The RL was a direct replacement for the Legend, so that argument doesn't fly. Secondly, the LFA will have a prestige and mystique missing in the Acura. Lexus is an entire perceptual segment above Acura, and Lexus will pull this off. The car will be right, from the start. I am not so sure that it will be a Ferrari/other supercar competitor, as I don't think that is what Lexus invisions. But it will be a Luxury GT of the finest order, for which there is a strong market.

Isn't Bugatti is an overprice on steroid VW anyway? it had a VW W12 engine doesn't it? see I can said the same about Bugatti Veyron.

Don't gave me wrong, I must gave VW credit for building a marvel of engineering with the Veyron.

It does sound pretty good but nothing really special. It's like a V10 sounds like. Carrera GT, M6/M6, Audi S6/S8 all have distinctive V10 soundtracks and all sound a lot better and richer.

Same can be said about VW,Audi,PSA Peugeot Citroen,Renault....etc.Other than Europe they are nowhere and nothing.

It kind of funny that what everyone said when Lexus first came out 17 or 18 years ago; now look at them. Even BMW, MB and Audi admit they're a true competitior.

What VW? do you mean the "people wagon" as known in Europe? Most people don't even know what is Peugeout Citroen or Renault is in the U.S. I can said the same about those mention vechicles.

When the new Buggati Veyron rumor to be faster supercar ever made, no one belief they. Are at least most of the Lambo, Ferrari, Zonda and SLR owner would laugh and says, NO WAY...

But now the Buggati Veyron is the fastest stock vechicle on the street.

Sure Lexus does not have the racing heritage, that why they use F1 and Yamaha technology in building this LF-A.

That's right you said it "no racing heritage" I wonder why? co's there crap.
Face it, lexus is an overpriced toyota.
My advice is buy a toyota and save you're money, and put it towards a real car like an MB, and then you're truly made it.

Lexus ALWAYS understates their 0 - 60 times by at least .5 seconds. Here are the results of the 5 Top Luxury Cars in this test which was reported in the January Issue of Car and Driver. Please note these tests were all done on the same day at about the same time and at the same altitude. The results reflect the average of 3 runs and all cars are the 2007 vintage.

Mercedes S550 5.6, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.1 (Benz show 5.4 in their specs)
BMW 750iL 5.7, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.2
Jag XJ Super 6.0 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.5
Lexus LS460L 6.2 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.6
Audi A8 6.8 0 - 60 quarter mile 15.2

Note that Lexus, as usual, is more than the 5.4 the manufacturer CLAIMS to get by .8 seconds.

Also note the LS430 (prior model the LS460 replaced) was rated at 295 HP and was actually 278 when Lexus corrected their rating. And there were no refunds or apologies from the so-called "quality" car company. ABC - Always Be Careful what you buy from the (REPREHENSIBLE) Toyota/Lexus people.....
