Caught In The Wild: The 2010 Mercedes Benz E-Class

Mercedes new  E-Class model,  code named W 212, is scheduled for release in sometime in mid 2009. The first variation to roll off the line will be the sedan, followed about a year later with a wagon.

These photos show a heavily disguised prototype of the new E-Class sedan during tests over the last few days in wet and snow conditions

The next E-Class should offer a wide selection of engines ranging from a 4 cylinder 184 HP to an 8 cylinder with 544 HP and the diesel's ranging from 4 cylinder 136 HP to an 8 cyl. 354 HP.

A hybrid version may follow as early as 2010.

A bit too C-class shaped for me.

it's pretty well disguised

you can still see the general profile of the car.

and the general profile doesn't show much change from current models.

... and that 'general profile' does indeed scream plus-sized C-Class, which (at least to me) is not a good thing.

I preferred it when the E-Class sort of went its own way stylistically, not really adopting too many cues from any of its siblings, yet still looking recognizably Mercedes.

I guess Mercedes has gone the Same Sausage/Different Size route this generation.

I agree, the E has always been its own little branch of design.

Looks like the current one, with a bigger grille and more interesting tail lights.

I am sure it will be another winner like the old E..the designers know not to screw up the design of the E-Class.

I think it looks more S class-y than before rather than C class-y. We shall have to see the front end - square like C class or sleek like S class? Or in between?

Looks pretty good to me. Im confident the the outside of the car will be great. My question is what will the interior look like? I like the interior of the current car a lot right now. But I saw some interior shots on another website and I am very afraid. Looks like they designed it with a ruler. Very straight sith sharp edges, kinda like the 80's caddy's and lincolns. NOT A GOOD LOOK!!!

Speaking of mew MB interiors. The hollywoodextra website has pics of the production GLK interior and its HORRIBLE. If they put that in the E Class it will be the end of a beautiful car.

Every car company seems to have a brief period- three to four years- when its design and exectuion really seems on fire. Mercedes' was 2003-2007 (ending with the current S class) the R class being the one exception. Infiniti seems to be in the middle of its superheated phase right now. Toyota seems to have never had one- and this includes lexus. BMW has had two or three such phases; their all time 4 year low may have just gotten over. Audi- warming up but not at supernova stage just yet.
For the 2009 E class- I'm afraid Mercedes will have to wait for its next run. Even with a ton of disguise, passion seems to come through. No doubt it'll be super competent (Germans cant have their taxis not be).

You coulda rocked out with the typos. I think we're all reasonably intelligent here. Typos can be forgiven. Besides, it's an internet car forum. Ya think anybody really cares that much?

This new E-class hasn't got a chance with the new Jaguar XF around, the Jag is so sexy and has one of the finest interiors this side of a Rolls Royce/Bentley. My family work for Bentley aswell, and they agree!

My cousin will work in the Nullserie(don´t know the english word, maybe Zero-series???) of the E-class. So he will see it without camouflage.
The internal presentations were about 3-4 weeks ago, but only a few people were allowed to see it without camouflage. My cousins boss was at the presentaion, where you could see the car wihout camouflage, but nobody was allowed to look inside the car.
He said everybody in the hall was blown away by the looks of the car.
Sorry for my bad english.

Ok, now I could find the word . Nullserie = pilot series.
It´s something like a test-production. They produce just a few cars a day for testing. They also try to find problems in the production. The production of the pilot series starts this month.
And yeah, he would like to make some photos, but they have controls all the time.
