Chevrolet Camaro to come in three trim levels, range-topper will have 405-hp
After being on a hiatus for several years, GM will introduce the fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro next year. The concept made its debut in 2006 at the Detroit Auto Show but the production version isn’t set to arrive in dealerships until spring of 2009. While we keep seeing spy shots every now and then, everyone is still wondering what the powertrain lineup will consist of.
According to Road&Track, who attempts take a crack at solving the mystery, the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro coupe and convertible will come in three trim levels including an LS, LT and SS. The LS trim will get a 3.5L V6 engine that produces 220-hp, while the LT trim will get a 3.6L V6 engine with direct-injection from the 2008 Cadillac CTS producing...

why even bother putting out the 220 hp v6, its such a wimp.
there is a seemingly endless list of other cars i would rather have, which will end up being cheaper too.

People may actually opt for the V6 because maybe they want a cool car thats economical, or just care for the looks. I see a lot more V6 Mustangs than V8 Mustangs.

Funny to think about it, but my 1998 Mustang GT w/ 4.6L V8 had 225bhp. It could get out of it's own way and felt pretty powerful (for the time anyway).
Now we see 220 hp and think Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
I think the 304bhp V6 should be a pretty decent performer for a balanced budget and gas purposes.

Because Hertz/Avis don't buy the V8 models of American cars. :)

09ctsv4me, thats because cars are so damn heavy that they need 220hp just to get moving. 225hp would easily get your mustang 0-60 in under 7 sec. Now days we need 300hp just to do that. Cars are too damn fat these days.
during the days of your mustang 175hp in a compact would fly, now 175hp takes 9 seconds to go 0-60.

Three Trim levels - Concept, Prototype, and Hearsay. I'm tired of only "hearing" about the Camaro. I can kind of, and that's a stretch, understand Toyota taking so long to produce the LF-A supercar; they're striving for the perfect machine, and so they should if they're trying to produce a car of that caliber.
But c'mon. It's a Camaro. Enough with the BS, and produce the car already.

220 will be a base engine if you want power you would opt for the big v8.

Not sure why GM thinks it has to have three trim levels, especially with a 220-hp 3.5. They always seem to add more complexity than required.
Keep it focused on the hi-po 3.6 DI which gives you plenty of horsepower and good MPG. Then have the full-out V8 which serves as the halo car and gets 20% of sales for the true performance freaks.

GM is currently under the micro scope they since the new cafe rules are in place this car was being develpoed before the new rules, and GM is trying to find a way to make this car be all things with three trims, 1. good on gas with the base motor 2. a good mix of power and fuel use with the middle trim. 3. third trim would probaly be the lease selling sporty v8 which would ofcourse consume the most fuel.

Oil just hit 140 dollars a barrel based on the weakening US dollar as talk goes towards 200 dollar barrel prices.
Gas is 4.86 in CA and soon to cross 5 bucks (if the Goldman sachs prediction of 200 dollars is right we are talking about close to 8 dollar gasoline) . Are these cars still going to sell beyond the initial enthusiast ?

For some reason, I think the Goldman Sachs prediction is far more fact. Afterall, they're part of the one of the most powerful entities in the world....The Fed. They can manipulate anything in their favor, and nobody would realize it.

$200 by this time next year (oil barrel). We're in for quite a ride; just not the one we all want.

it hasnt stopped how many makers of producing loads of gas guzzling crossovers and some of which barely offer more practicality that a typical sedan.........its funny you always see comments like this directed at American car companies but none at the imports......its like the most rediculous car review I've ever seen between a GTR and Z06 online where the reviewer saids the Z06 only getting 16mpg didnt seem like much of a value statement than went on to praise the fact that the 15 mpg achieved by the GTR makes it a bargain compared to ferrari and lamborghinis......

I'm an admitted Euro car snob but I really like this car. American muscle could be back! Looked really good as "Bumble Bee" in Transformers. Now, if they stay away from the drum brakes........

The Silverado does. My brother in law has an 08 texas edition and it has rear drums. They still have cars with rear drums too. Cobalt and G6 in lower trim If I am not mistaken.
