Chevrolet Camaro transmission problem fixed, says GM

General Motors has resumed production of the 2010 Camaro SS after having fixed the mechanical defect problem earlier reported.

No recall is warranted. Last week, reports came in from owners related to failures of the Tremec six-speed manual gearboxes.

It is unclear what the actual cause of the defect is but it has been speculated to be related to the output shaft of these vehicles. The defect manifested itself in the form of a debilitating mechanical failure when the affected vehicles were launched aggressively with the engine turning 5,000 rpm or more. Production has continued but some units have been held back to double check.

That's good news. The "old" GM would have whistled off into the sunset like nothing ever happened. It would have been good to ask the owners to come in and change the things before they break but this alone is a step in the right direction.

The more things change - the more things stay the same huh ? In typical GM style there is a serious problem with their vehicle. Will this tarnish the image of the "new" Camaro Of course not, the band wagon jumping, mindless GM followers will just blow it off like they blew off other GM failings like, shrinking exhaust manifolds, the distributor driving the oil pump, burned thru dist. rotors, cracking engine blocks, kinked p/u truck hoods, starter shims, the 2.8 V6, pressed-in rocker studs, oil pump pickup tubes falling out, etc. Was GM dumb enough to assume that none of the new Camaro owners would dump the clutch at 5000rpm ? Aparently they were - same old GM.

Nissan didnt need to. Owners do not need to show off their launch control setting to their friends 10times without cool off.

oh, like putting "DO NOT USE LAUNCH CONTROL WITH VDC OFF" in the manual?

I believe it's called idiot proofing a design... but that being said, hasn't the transmission problems only effected about 5% of all the GTR's made? Meaning if you were first in line to buy one, there would be a 1 in 20 chance that if you repeatedly beat the shit out of it you would break it. lol it isn't that bad when you put things into perspective.
