The chief engineer for the Chevrolet Volt, Frank Weber, will transfer from General Motors to an as-yet-undisclosed senior position with Opel.

Since March 2007, German-born Weber has served as the global vehicle line executive and chief vehicle engineer for GM’s electric vehicle development program.

He is set to leave GM on December 1. Weber has held a similar position at Opel, where he developed saloons including the Opel Insignia. Weber claims that at GM, there has been a “huge difference” in the Volt program from the moment he came onboard. His new role at Opel will depend on the outcome of the negotiations swirling over Magna International’s planned takeover of Opel.
