Chevrolet to Release RWD Impala in 2009

The General has been in desperate need of a rear-wheel drive sedan to compete with similarly equipped competitors.

Thankfully, the great-granddaddy of them all, the Impala, will fill such a niche and finally return to its RWD roots in 2009.

The new model will be based off the upcoming Camaro's platform, currently under development by the hoons at Holden in the land down under. The 2009 model will differentiate itself from the 2007 model in both length and width, providing more interior room and allowing the wheels to be pressed to the outer limits of the new sedan's body.

2009 is gonna be way too late i think for GM. The japanese and korean are light years ahead of them. The longer GM wait to come out with crap cars and further they are behind the competitors ( not like it matters )

not a gm fan but dont like ignorrant comments either, if im not mistaking the impala is one of the best selling vehicles in america, "gm's" cars arent crap in my opinion they have a come along way from what they were and still have a ways to go but they arent crap some brands better than others, and the impala seems good enough im sure the 2009 model will be an even bigger improvement......this whole perception thing has idiots hating american cars "and again these are just cars" post how many recalls toyota has had, post the low quality interiors in nissans and infinitis, how many cars in hondas camp share the same platform. but all you hear from the car nuts (and i do mean nuts) hate american cars and praise the bland, utterly boring appliances (japansese cars) its sick.....clear out the brainwash

Thank you bmwdrvr. I just went and toured GM's engineering facilities and all I have to say is that I was completely and utterly amazed. I will never speak ill of GM's engineering capabilities.

gm is on it's way up. no doubt. rwd will bring many buyers back.

now buick needs a new grand national, and pontiac needs a new bonneville. i guess pontiac has their fiero back already...kinda, sorta...not exactly.

I didnt mean to post a ignorrant comments, but the fact of the matter is that the majority of the impalas are either rental cars or goverment vehicles. Why would anyone with an IQ of a 5 year old will buy one is beyond me. ( even i love the 95-97 inpala with the LT1 in it+ rear wheel drive ). anything after that has gone down hill.
