Chevy Volt revealed
While some may doubt the likelihood of General Motors’ upcoming Chevrolet Volt appearing on time, the carmaker’s engineers and designers don’t seem to have the same qualms.

In a video for ABC news, GM’s exterior design executive director Michael Simcoe gave a preview of the upcoming car by revealing part of a completed clay model.

It looks like a damn Malibu now. And what happened to the AUTOnomy platform? The 'skateboard' chassis that has electric motors at all four wheels?

A Malibu you can plug-in. THANKS, GM. I've waited 8 YEARS for that.

Pffft, once again GM executives have failed to follow through on a good concept.

Randy, yeah because it has the new Chevrolet grill with the standard chevy badge on it? What'd you think, they'd make it totally unrecognizable as a Chevy? Get real...

It seems to me that the aerodynamic tuning affected the car's immediate recognition as a unique vehicle, but with a little imagination, it's very evident that this car is gonna look great.

Don't think I can call it a baby Camaro anymore );

I am more interested in how much gas it takes to drive 400miles. Sounds interesting though. Volvo's concept hybrid drives 80 miles before the generator kicks in. I think that chev is still behind the competition, that being PML's Volvo! Then again PML's mini Cooper is still way ahead of both of these cars with four hours of battery time and 80mpg when the generator kicks in.

And I bet even at this stage the Volt is waaay closer to production ready than anything "PLM" has shown so far...

PML doesn't make cars, but they are way ahead of this Volt unfortunately, check out pml's web site and then tell me that chev is ahead, I wish that it was the other way around and I have no intention of rubbing it in, it's just the sad facts.

How much is going to cost to charge it? People look at the gas savings - but you still have to use electricity to charge it. My electric bill is high enough. Plus - isn't most electricity created from some form of oil.

I like the idea - but how much will the real world savings be? Save $200 a month in gas but increase your electric bill by $150?

I need to do some more research.

I'm pretty sure electricity is a lot cheaper than petrol.

At least in the US, oil-fired power plants provide only a small fraction of total electricity production:

40 Miles per charge?? Are they missing a 0, 400, or a 1, 140?

No. GM has ALWAYS stated that 40 miles on pure electric charge before the ICE provides electricity for the electric motor.

Not a very impressive range unfortunately.I wish it was a typo too.

"even a glimpse like this is unheard of in Detroit design studios". -ABC

Uh, no ABC... GM pulled the same EXACT same trick with Morley Safer from 60 Minutes eight months ago, curling up the corner of that same car cover when it was thrown over some chunky new Caddy.

That chunky new caddy was a preview of the now current CTS.

Are we sure that is the new Volt and not a sneak peek at the Cruz Cobalt replacement? Either way I like it. It is kinda an American version of the new Civic and I have really grown to like the new Chevy grille. And P.S. I really like the Malibu anyways.

This is definitely the Volt. There are some pretty clear pictures of the front of the Cruze and the headlights and grill are totally different.

In some ways, the front (headlight area) looks like a civic.
