Chevy Volt vs Nissan LEAF: Which Is The STUD OR DUD?

I found this article interesting because the Volt is the standard in which EVs will be measured against.

Point is, the Volt isn't even on the market, neither is most EV models due on the market for the next year. It would seem to me the Tesla would be the test standard, but not mentioned. Period. Possibly the reason is that the Tesla is a sports car and priced accordingly?

Without a gas/diesel range extender, Electric cars need to get at least 200miles per charge if not more. At 100miles the leaf is no more then an expensive electric scooter.

The Leaf is the better choice.

Crash worthy five passenger vehicle with cargo area.
Zero emission vehicle (ZEV) 100% electric or otherwise.
Price: Anything between 20K to 40K with tax incentives.
Range after full charge: No less 100 miles regardless of average speed driven.
Charge time drained battery: 2 to 6 hours.
Max speed: No less 100 kilometers/hour.
A 100 mile charge range is the preferred target required, 72% of Americans drive less than 40 miles a day and 98% drive less than 100 miles per day.
Toyota already produced such car it was called the 1997-2003 RAV4 EV, many still operational today in California with factory batteries.

nissan over the chevy. dont judge it by the looks. the prius looks stupid as hell and its a huge success. samething with the honda.

even with me being a nissan fan, i must say the volt looks better and is probably the better EV in general. the only problem is the price, the nissan is way more reasonable.

Looking at the price, they look like the same price to me depending on how long you own it. The lease on those $10,000 will end up costing just as much over time. Just less upfront... which is dumb because that makes the electric car just like a $30,000 gas car only instead of paying x amount for fuel every month, you are paying x amount for batteries.

My take on these two is that: the Nissan Leaf comes across as more of a 'driving appliance', whereas the Chevy Volt appears to be much closer to being a conventional automobile. The Nissan will certainly find its share of buyers, but it will be a much harder sell than the far more traditional looking/functioning Chevy Volt. I wouldn't label either a Dud at this point, but Nissan's quirky design might prove rather polarizing to many (especially male) shoppers.

The Leaf makes the Prius look like a Ferrari. Maybe some people want to save money so they dont look at the outside of a car,but most people would like at these two and throw up on the Leaf. I'd be embarassed to stop at red lights due to people seeing me. The volt is the winner hands down.

If you also read the story, the Nissan gets more than twice the range on battery. You know the part that GM was raving about most Americans need no more than that. They pretty much pushed the motor generator aside.

The Nissan does that without having to invest in an engine, therefore they can spend extra on batteries. If you want an ugly car that you never have to pay for gas then get it, just don't whine when you forget to plug it in.

the volt is the better choice by looks, 100 mph speed (leaf only 85) and im sure these speeds will be cut when you ad people and cargo. The Volt again is the winner with range, if you run out of power the gas engine kicks in the leaf if you run out of power you better call a tow truck.

It seems like other that the Volt, the range is poor and the models are forced to get to the market. The Volt has been in R& D for a number of years, others are adapting existing platforms, and ready tech (Telsa with it low tech battery pack good for just what 100 miles and cost $100k, booty)

I like what you both have to say, I like PML flightlinks moni cooper way more and it must be 7 years old, just imagine pml's hybrid had 640 BHP and 80 mpg when the gas generator kicks in, could you imagine what would happen to our economy if all cars were this efficient, the Gov, wouldn't like it.
