Chinese Clone The MCC Smart
The Chinese are either the best or worst reverse-engineers in the world. Check out this from Shandong Huoyun, a division of the Qilu Petrochemical Corporation; it's a nearly indistinguishable knockoff of the Smart Fortwo. Under the skin, however, it's an entirely different beast. As its name reveals, the HuoYun Electromobile is an EV with a range of 75 miles and a top speed of 31 mph. Considering it's also lacking the Smart passenger-safety cell, 31 mph is probably more than fast enough. We also hear some enterprising New Yorkers have already started selling these from a blanket laid out on Fifth Avenue. Caveat emptor, German tourists. – Mike Spinelli Read Article

Are you serious???

This isn't a Smart???

They copied it right down to the trim lines!

The Chinese are so thrifty with their designs... it reminds me of how the Japanese used to be, especially the original Lexus LS400 ripoff.

Most bikes have larger wheels and tires than the average car.

I hope you're not seriously surprised. GM, Honda, RIM, Hollywood now MB have felt the sting of the "we'll look into it" gov't policy of doing jack all.

Another $1.99 Mao special.

Yes I wonder what happens when you hit a wall at 31 mph. Like all Chinese cars, it will collapse. No thanks.
BTW nice rims.

Chinese companies have been sued for their highly reminiscent looks. I bet they get sued again.

Lexusis350, it doesn't pay to sue them, the Chinese disregard things such as "intellectual property". Those companies that have sued, such as Honda and Toyota have lost. There is only one way to take care of this, if a company truly meant business...I let you guys figure that one out...

This car looks like something you find in a coin operated machine...they knock off shoes and purses, now cars

Good post. Adding to that, this Chinese Smart looks 99% true to the German one. I'm always surprised how they ca n get away with such obvious disregard of copyright laws.

I wonder if the replacement parts have the same part numbers, just like te QQ and it's GM originator?

It'll take GM or some huge company to go belly-under before the gov't does something. Right now, most of corporate America still makes money off of China's slave labour, so they're not pushing the gov't to do anything.

Hey, if it can be copied, the Chinese will.

That's why I always say, we're in need of a good war. Not even Wal-Mart would dare import anything from China if the navy lost a Carrier battlegroup (of course, that would be followed by China's coastline disappearing).

I think Honda won the law suit from the Chinese version of the CR-V, called something like the SR-V. There was no difference except the name.

You would think China would have some pride in its booming consumer market and manufacturing capabilities and showcase something original.

With all the resources and technology China has, it would seem to be a no-brainer to develop something distinctly Chinese that they could stand behind and show national pride in. Instead, they always seem to play "me too" and "catch-up'.

It should say "This is the People's Car" not "This is the People's Car, a shoddy copy of superior Western design".

Just goes to show that communism is the mortal enemy of innovation. Just look at automotive empires of the former Soviet Union or East Germany. *shudder*

Have you guys seen the knockoff 7 series, complete with a white and blue ensignia? Or the knockoff C class, I can't imagine what the engines in both those cars are

Haha, BMWu's and Maocedes Benzes are already on the roads?

China will only be innovative when they become a free-market Democracy. They have no reason to innovate, it'd just get copied by some other Chinese person.

They sowed on some show a couple of yrs ago in China a half BMW and and Half Mercedes, I think the BMW was the front and the Mercedes was the back. Then there was the guy who went into the Chinese Jag dealership and said he really liked his 2006 S-type, and this was 2004, the guy had bought a clone from somewhere, and due to his ignorance thought it was a a S-type

The Honda clone was just that,
I don't get it...why do that, you don't get the same warranty, or qaulity. I am starting to think that customers are truly ignorant (anybody who thinks Buick is a luxury brand has not done their research) to buy one of these. Because if the buying public were more educated about products, it would help kill off these monstrosities.
