why anyone buy the Durango with the (supposedly) more upscale Aspen priced so close that doesnt make sense it seems they will be their biggest competition and it seems like a losing battle for the Dodge

HEMI/Hybrid??? Can those even make sense in the same sentece together? The Aspen is a huge waste for Chrysler as sales are horrible for it. It is a glorified Durango which is already overweight and frumpy like the Explorers. And they tried coming out with that new Crossover thing, but its mpg's suck compared to it's competitors. Their minivan got too boxy and is not competition for the Sienna/Odyssey. Dodge really needs to work on it's image.
Personally I feel they totally lost out on the mpg conscious market when they discontinued the Neon for the Caliber. Only available as a hatch, stands almost SUVish in height and just bad ergonomics. The Neon would have been updated nicely, had a much wider range to compete against the Civic, Corolla bunch. Been able to steal buyers from the lame Focus and desperately in need of a redesign Cobalt. And would have been offered in a tuner version comparable with the STi and EVO.
Good job on ditching an icon for your company!

Hemi-Hybrid. That's a big oxymoron.

Actually it is not an oxymoron, large engines and large vehicles can gain from hybrid technology proportionately more than smaller vehicles. There are some people that need a high capacity vehicle, able to carry 8 people and towing 6000 pounds wile getting 40% better city mileage and 25% overall sound pretty good to me.

i used to have a lot of respect for dodge, but now its down the tubes. pretty close to the definition of mediocrity. even worse than Found On Road Dead (ford)!

Ask GM how well their full-size SUV hybrids are selling.

Probably perfectly fine since the production volume wasn't expected to be high.

its stupid that the durango and aspen prices are like $200 apart. the chrysler is supposed to be "upscale"!
so.....either the durango is waaay overpriced, or the "luxury" chrysler is just a poser.
^^ i think its the 2nd one.

These things cost too damn much. Offer a hybrid SUV for 35k. If a person can afford that much for a durango or $50k+ for a tahoe hybrid, I seriously doubt the have trouble affording gas. These things nee to be within reach of less wealthy people who really need them and really need the fuel savings.

They're too heavy and complicated to cost that little. Lots of metal = more expensive to make. Chrysler is already losing so much, it would be silly to price them lower.
The Ford Escape Hybrid is a good solution, because realistically people don't need SUVs this big. If they do, buy a Ford Flex or a minivan.

I feel ya, I know with all the R&D and cost to build it they really can't make a profit selling it at a lower cost but Damn, thats still expensive.

First person to find an article on these vehicles that actually mentions the MPG they will get will be my hero. Looks like this is another GM "slap the Hybrid tag on a vehicle and hope nobody notices the lame MPG benefit"? This is the single biggest reason the big three will not recover, no respect for the brains of the consumer...only so many dopes you can continue to take advantage of.

Well, I have to defend GM on this one. As silly as it is that these huge trucks have hybrid motors, their improvements vs. gas counterparts is, percentage-wise, just as big as any hybrid vehicle vs. gas model. They may actually have bigger percent advantages than Lexus luxury hybrids in the combined cycle.

From my understanding Hybrid is a broad term. Apparently these will have HEMI engines that utilize an electric drivetrain, similar to a diesel locomotive sorta.

i'd assume the fit and finish of these beasts would be pathetic too. dodge has never been known for quality interiors as of late.
better to save the money and buy a smaller SUV w/ better mpg. just like a luxury car, you dont NEED a big hulking SUV.
