Chrysler Considers Selling The Viper As A Brand!
Chrysler is weighing strategic options for its Dodge Viper business, which could include a sale of the brand.

The Dodge Viper is a low-volume V-10-powered sports car, which was first produced in 1992.

Chrysler spokesman Todd Goyer said about 11 Viper cars are built daily at Chrysler's Conner Avenue assembly plant in Detroit. Chrysler has sold 682 Vipers so far this year, up 111% from the previous year.

Okay, let me get this straight. Someone wants to buy a fading, very low volume model [Viper] from a fading brand [Dodge].

I used to think that I would like to screw Pam Anderson. But have you seen her recently?

This could actually be good. If someone bought Viper they could then develop it as a true niche product such as McLaren and Saleen does. Dodge would likely abandon the Viper altogether in the coming years and then the car would simply cease to exist. This way it could gain its own life and prosper (away from its ailing parent company).

It's worth nothing as a brand -- Chrysler should concentrate on selling the assets associated with Viper production if that has any equity left. Alternatively, maybe thay can cut a deal leasing out the Viper brand name.

They should sell a large share to an after-market tuner. (i.e. not Hennesseennnessssy)

(Fun fact: Did you guys know that women, not men, but the entire Viper together?)

note they did not say who the 3rd parties were. You could have a Saleen Viper. I agree with 222max in that it could be like the next S7 Saleen where it is prominent in racing still and carries the brand.

Heck maybe Hennessey is looking to buy the Viper since it makes such crazy versions of it.

The Viper is old school. Times have changed. Kill it already.

As for the Viper brand, yet another brilliant idea from Chrysler. When will these guys learn. Everything they do results in more debt.

For the right price, a well financed tuner could make this work. First thing they have to do is get rid of that stupid V10.... too heavy and, when it is tuned to its potential, too powerful for the frame (you can literally bend the frame if you floor it in first gear on some of the tuned models.)

Drop a well tuned twin turbo six in there and you're in business. Maybe also lengthen out the rear, go for side mount exhausts, and do some really dramatic underbody aero work.

The length would make it look a little like a Z8 coupe, while I was thinking F430 for the rear. Potentially cool.

Edit:

Lengthen the C pillar (car has no B pillar) to the rear of the car and make it a hatch back. Shorten the front with the move to the V6

GreenPlease, you have no balls. The V10 should stay, what they need to do is DOHC, 4-5 valves per cyl, Direct injection, and Variable Valve timing, they could easly get over 830 HP from this engine. Your talking about taking the car's balls from it. The V10 is what makes it a Viper, your talking about making it into a garter snake....I think your Test level needs to be checked.

If it's the frame your worry about then the chassis needs to be redesigned.

And make it a hatchback....WTF are you serious, or are you smoking...The original Viper was conceived as a modern day Shelby Cobra, and it has a design all it's own, mean, and Viper like, not like a long nose

The American car industry is in a sad, sad, place. GM is its only hope I guess. They're the only ones doing anything good.

I think this would separate the Viper name and the Chrysler image apart and may do more good than bad. I never put this to thought but for now it seems like it would be beneficial to the Viper car. With some proper chassis development and with people who know how to make a car go around a corner a potential Viper brand could be in the league of Saleen's.
