Chrysler Sales Down 5% For September
Chrysler LLC reported US sales for September 2007 of 159,799 units; down 5 percent compared to September 2006 with 168,888 units sold. All sales figures are reported as unadjusted.

"With the overall industry down versus September 2006, Chrysler retail sales remain strong," said Darryl Jackson, Vice President - U.S. Sales. "Our fleet sales continue to trend down more than 20 percent driving the overall sales decrease for the month. This is directly in line with our plan to reduce daily rental fleet during the second half of the year."

Chrysler brand car sales were led by Sebring Sedan which posted sales of 4,418 units and Sebring Convertible which finished the month with sales of 1,639 units. Chrysler Aspen sales rose 8 percent versus August 2007 with 3,875 units.

Jeep(R) brand sales were down 11 percent year-over-year with retail sales up and fleet down driven by planned fleet reductions, while Wrangler posted gains. Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited posted sales of 8,605 units, up 71 percent versus September 2006.

Dodge brand sales increased 5 percent over last year led by Dodge Ram which posted a gain of 20 percent. The all-new Dodge Nitro was up 2 percent over August 2007.

"Our sell down on 2007 models is going very well and in October we will continue to offer aggressive lease and retail payments for our customers," said Michael Keegan, Vice President - Volume Planning and Sales Operations. "We will extend the 0% APR offering for 60 months on more 2007 models through the end of the month."

Chrysler finished the month with 450,733 units of inventory, or a 71-day supply. Inventory is down by 15 percent compared to September 2006 when it was at 533,220 units.

Yea, you're a real genius Chuck! Dodge and Chrysler sales account for the majority of their sales, while Jeep is the third best selling of their brands. It looks like a lot of people are interested in Dodge trucks, vans and Chrysler vans. If you'd bother to read the article, you'd also discover that the overall sales drop is attributed to a decline in fleet sales, which is deliberate, and the biggest drop in the decline is an 11% decline in Jeep sales! Don't forget the success of the LX platform, 300C and Charger. GM is just now playing catch-up with their Australian- built G8. The Sebring/Avenger platform is a miss thanks to Dumler, but competent leadership is now in place. Chrysler is back!

Cerberus had better do something about this.

I agree with chuck. They shouldn't completely go away- but like Ford, they should cut down and get back to basics. You DON'T need a huge product lineup with ten thousand crossovers. You DO want small, tidy, attractive, high-quality lineups with only the necessities. This will lead to profits- and then you can go for higher sales.

BTW, dump Dodge, please. Unnecessary. The only one I like is the Charger.

Dodge sells as many vehicles as Jeep and Chrysler combined. That would not be a good move!

Tracer> You are in a dream world, as a retired car dealer i can tell you everytime a Chrysler product pull onto the lot we had to decide which of the consultants would go out and give then the bad news about their trade in value? No TRacer look for another buyout and then like AMC somebody will buy Jeep and the rest of the company folds and nobody in this country will cry but you.
They still have the worse dealer force in America and the most uninformed no trust staff in the industry, they are the ultimate smoke and mirrors, BTW why didn't they try to make the one thing going for them better the Crusier, instead of sending it to car heaven like they do all the time?

Ah, that explains alot, Chuck's a "retired car dealer!" Let me guess, some second-rate used car dealer that runs the miles back, cheats unsuspecting customers, and gives them nothing on their trades....

Tracer, all due respect gal or guy, but as a ultimate capitalist like i am who in their right minds tries to lose sells on purpose, i suggest with the housing meltdown you go into the real estate business and get over price listing's at least you can think you are doing well, of course in this buyer's market you won't sell a thing but you will think you are doing good, aka Chrysler Corp.

Only time will tell Chuckie! It couldn't be any worse than the mismanagement daimler provided.

Give them a chance Chuckles. I too wasn't confident in Mr. Home Depot, but since he hired Mr. Press, I think they are serious about turning the company around that Daimler nearly ran in the ground. Are you an American? Why would you take pleasure in seeing an American company fail and put thousands of Americans out of work?

TRacer, THIS IS CHRYSLER'S FAULT. NOT Mercedes's. They have noone to blame but themselves.

It is largely Daimler's fault. the cut them to a shoestring budget. Good stuff was in the pipeline when they took over and it was replaced by compromised designs. That is why you get crap interiors and compromised vehicles like the Sebring and Caliber. the best designers and managers like Lutz took off for GM. That is why Chrysler vehicles are now looking like crap, and GM cars are now looking good. Imagine if Daimler hadn't messed with Chrysler.

I feel Chrysler is able to turn around in the next few years (sorry guys, I know we dont have the same opinion). Living in metro-detroit, I hear things about all automakers, and Chrysler LLC should be able to pick up and complete their turnaround.

IMO, Chrysler LLC needs to use a little less plastic on their interiors, LED taillights on more cars (of which I believe there are none) and more projector headlights. The Phoenix engine line should be promising as well.

Lest us not forget all those doubters our there in the automotive forum communities who were putting the nails in GM's coffin in 2005. Now look at GM, stylish cars, pretty good fuel economy, high quality, etc, etc, etc. Only time will tell about Chrysler and Ford......

"IMO, Chrysler LLC needs to use a little less plastic on their interiors, LED taillights on more cars (of which I believe there are none) and more projector headlights."

LEDs and projector beams are the least of their worries right now. They need to strip their cars to the core and figure out what makes them so unimpressive- and FIX IT. You have to spend money to make money. Put in new transmissions, develop a new V6, get a new platform for the Sebring/Avenger, design much better interiors and don't make the cars look so contrived.

And that's not the half of it.

S4cabriofoxone,

I understand what you're saying. Ive noticed that youve been on this site for a long time and you usually are amongst the most logical people one here.

I have a thing with LED indicators and projector beam headlights (amongst other things), sorry if it jolts people.

First time I saw the Sebring in pictures, all I saw was tons of crap plastic. After a few months, I went and sat in one, and loved it. it had too much plastic, but the plastic was well executed and the interior was nice (as well as the exterior).

Chrysler LLC needs to beef up the Chrysler line to at least the likes of Lincoln, and preferably Cadillac (the current Cadillac line is great). Chrysler has problems, but nothing I believe is unfixable. Chrysler also has a problem in their corporate culture (along with the rest of the Big 3). There is this stupid idea that diversity and minorities will save the auto industry. What racist crap. Promote people for their deeds & capabilities, NOTHING ELSE.

With the mess they made of the Sebring (especially the horribly mis-proportioned convertible) redesign, they deserve all the back-lash they get!

TRacer> I of all people don't want to see massive layoffs or a complete collaspe of any American company who realy try's to bring to market a beter idea or product. In the many years we were in business we bought Dodge Vans and service vehicles from Chrysler and when we had problem they always turned a deaf ear. They didn't care if we went out, why should i care about them now, i also owned many a Jeep when AMC had the product, they tried to fix or work out something when they broke down which was often, when Chrysler got in the picture it was you don't like it by a Subaru which had a dealership across the street, boy they were dumb we did just that and we never return to buy another Chrysler product Subie blew them out of he water.
If they turn out to be the next sucess story of the 21st century with soild dealers and product then i wish them all the luck, but in many many years of the same run around and poor vehicles all i see is a failed corp desperate for infusion money not a complete change of doing business.
Take care sorry to rant again, you are a Chrysler guy no problem good luck

I think you'll find bad dealers and service depts. among all manufacturers, even Honda and Toyota. Friends of mine had a heck of a time getting Toyota to cover repairs to their Lexuses when their engines locked up from sludge. I'm a fan of many automobiles including Subarus and I certainly would not want to see any of the U.S. manufacturers simply go away. I think more choices and competition is good for the market, as the imports have forced the big three to make changes as well as improvements. Germany and Japan both have more automobile manufacturers than the U.S. and the further demise of our industrial base would be tragic. U.S. automakers are partially to blame for their own predicament, but I think they are making a comeback and we will all benefit from the exciting new products from Detroit that have character and are inspired designs. With the quality gap narrowing, other manufacturers will be forced to have more inspiring designs as well (such as Honda and Toyota).

Good post TRacer> Competition is good, Detroit has a chance now to bring people back and if they can recover this is good for America and world wide sales, lets hope they don't slip back to the past and they move forward in this 21st century.

I'm glad we can find some common ground. I know what it feels like to be pissed off at a dealership and not to want to get burnt again. I've dealt with good and bad and feel the domestic dealerships could learn alot from the Infiniti dealer I've been dealing with lately. However it's no longer 1985 and I think that things have changed for the better since you got burnt by your local Chrysler dealer. Lets hope the competitive marketplace weeds out the bad dealerships and manufacturers will be better represented by those that sell and service their products.
