Chrysler gives up on rear-wheel-drive for production Dodge Demon
So where’s that hot little RWD Demon sports car from Dodge was going to take on the Kappa twins and venerable MX-5? Well times have changed, because apparently the Demon will be based on one of Chinese-automaker Chery’s platforms and will be front-wheel drive.

While Chrysler has stated the reason for the switch to front wheel drive was due to emissions regulations, the real reason seems to be price. Chrysler has stated that...

I actually liked the concept as Miata,Soltice fighter.1st I don't trust the idea of any automotive product from China. The simple reason is they have at the moment too far to come in order to get the concept of quality right. I'm sure it will sell in some South American country but I don't see it selling in the US.I mean Chrysler is struggling to get quality interior on the Sebring and Avenger. Supposedly they will have new interiors for those cars by the end of February. I'll beleive it when i see it.I don't even think the interiors of the 300 are that great. They need to get their act together or they will tank!

Wow, the concept held so much promise and now this effectively kills the entire idea. They may as well not make it now.

From what I've heard is Chrysler is going to be getting help from Nissan with their small cars to help marketshare.

It was ugly and cheap, but that could've been overlooked because it was RWD, right?

WRONG. Dumb move! It's pointless!

Probably have to agree with the above posters. FWD just won't cut it with the sophisticated young buyers these days. Years ago Ford came out with a FWD sportscar convertible called the Capri (not related to the early 70's German Mercury Capri). It failed completely and was cancelled after a short 3 yrs.
If the Demon was FWD the styling and design would have to change greatly from the concept. The front axle would have to be moved rearward about a foot, and the styling would then look awkward. Of course handling will suffer accordingly without RWD.

Why ffffing bother if it is driven by the wrong wheels. It sure as hell will not be a Miata/Solstice fighter.

Has anyone driven a Chrysler 300? I have. Absolute junk. Hard to see a signal light through the squatty windshield, hard to see out the rear window, numerous blind spots, hard to back up as you simply can not judge the spacing behind the rear bumper, so you end up 3 feet from a perked car behind you. I will say the standard cloth seats are very comfortable, however this car is very fatiguing to drive, the drive train has a very artificial feel, the transmission does whatever it wants shifting wildly, upshifts, downshifts, it bangs into the next gear up if you ease off the throttle, it is not sure what it wants to do. The engine backfires occasionally, and it simply labors when pulling long grades on the roads of Pennsylvania. Chrysler should hang their head in shame to build this lemon of a car. Yes, the body looks great, but this is a small car inside, certainly not a flagship sedan. Look closer and you see low quality materials used throughout. Try finding a metal surface under the dash to mount a switch or 12V powerpoint, it doesn’t exist, only thin plastic and cardboard, nothing to drive a small screw into for a robust mount. When I first saw this car at the Detroit show, I was excited over it, and had to have one. One Big Mistake. I say Chrysler, go back to the drawing board and give us a break already, this junk has no place in today’s market, keep it up and you end up like Desoto and Hudson, out of business forever.

You really can’t beat Ford transmissions; they shift smoothly, quietly, predictably, logically.
