Chrysler recalls over 800,000 SUVs
The American half of DaimlerChrysler has issued a recall on all MY 2002-2006 Liberty SUVs, affecting more than 800,000 of the manufacturer's "Trail Rated" SUVs.

According to the automaker, a front suspension lower ball joint can separate under excessive use. The problem has already received over a 100 complaints with three injuries possibly attributed to the problem.

This is not the first time Chrysler has issued a recall on the Liberty or its ball joints. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched an investigation this year on the 2004 Liberty after receiving complaints. And, in 2003, the automaker recalled over 300,000 Liberty SUVs with, you guessed it, problems with the ball joint. That issue, though, was attributed to shipping and installation problems and not the part itself.

I would never buy a Jeep Liberty even though I currently have a Grand Cherokee.

A girl a suburb over died when her Liberty rolled a bunch of times.

Unsafe at any speed maybe.

I'm not surprised. Poor quality engineering - I guess they just need to keep the employee pricing in place, because nobody buys these thing for the quality!

Did anyone notice that it took over 100 complaints and 3 possible injuries and an Investigation from NHTSA to compell Chrysler to initate a Large Recall ? Why is that ?
A few weeks ago when everyone was laughing at Toyota and their recalls i told you the difference was that the Toyota Recall was done ASAP with very litte regard to cost + I dont remember any injuries attributed to the faulty part or any investigation from the NHTSA prompting action from Toyota.

Can you say the same for Chrysler ?

This is one of a whole bunch of reasons very few UK / Europeans trust the american automotive companies and tend to shy away from their cars.

Well its easy to blame Chrysler now, but its not long since the tables were turned and Mercedes was floundering held up by Chrysler.

Certainly for a smaller car company, Mercedes has had it's share of big recalls in this decade.

In some studies Chrysler and Dodge are more reliable than Mercedes.

I think DCX has deep problems caused by a rush of new models, and a proliferation of engine and transmission choices - all of which OVERLOADS the engineering capabilities.

DCX will continue to be reliability-challenged.
