Chrysler’s new mid-size sedan could be basd on Nissan Altima
Chrysler is working on a new mid-sedans that will replace the current Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger. A new team has been assembled for the emergency overhaul called ‘Project D’ and will only concentrate on the new mid-sized sedans.

The cars aren’t expected to arrive until 2011 as a 2012 model year but are already eating up a big chunk of Chrysler’s engineering and design resources. According to MotorTrend, Chrysler is approaching the project in three different ways.

The first is to develop its own new platform; to use a platform from either Fiat or Nissan’s mid-size Altima with different...

At least it's an attempt as a step in the right direction.

I fear the dreaded CVT.

Don't fear the CVT. I have an 09 Murano and the CVT in that is light years better then the first version. I am very impressed.

Its "next" car? I didn't think they'd be around long enough for a "next" car.

Now that Chrysler isnt being blead to death from Diamler they will get back on track. In fact 2009 dodge 1500 rams will have a four link rear suspention on coils. And it looks like Dodge will be supplying Chassis and drive trains for Nissan trucks. I know most of you don't follow Chrysler much because I hear many ignorant comments. Chrysler being the smallest of the 3 should recover faster.

that is the one thing I am worried about. There is nothing wrong with the 5.6l Endurance V8 that Nissan developed for the Titan. I hear they aren't even going to make that an option. If I were looking at that Titan, the fact that it has a Chrysler motor in it would certainly steer me towards a Tundra

That might be a very good thing...for Chrysler. Maybe they'll flex a bit more imagination into the exterior design since the basic platform will already exist. It's funny though...we haven't heard anything about the next-gen 300/300C. Are there any indications that this project is still operating?

Chrysler is majority owned by money whiz kids who want to flip it fast. Considering the $600M they invested, they will be out of the ChryCo business at the first possibility of selling it over a billion greenbacks... Somehow I doubt they will develop new cars such as successors to the 300 and the Wrangler XL. They will opt for badge engineering such as the Nissan in this post.

bfghemicuda, I also cheer for Chrysler - but I doubt they will make it; with or w/o Daimler.

JW Its true Cerberus will sell Chrysler as they have always said. I am more pissed at chrysler for getting involved with Diamler. They were doing very well when GM and Ford were starting there down turn. They were developing new 4cyl and V6s which got down played by Deiter Z and pushed the Hemi. In retrospect, Chrysler may not have gotten hurt so bad due to the Gas prices. Time will tell

Sounds like Cerberus is working on selling to Renault. Next Titan will be a rebadged Ram, next Sebring will be a rebadged Altima.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Frontier/Pathfinder end up being Dakotas or vice versa.
