Clarkson on the MINI Clubman: ‘…it’s one of the worst cars in the world.’
Sometimes when we write here, at eGMCarTech, we try to keep a ‘Clarkson’ tone in our mind. But as much as we try we can never be as blunt and brutally outspoken about the cars we write about. We’ll just leave it up to Mr. Clarkson himself. In his recent review of the MINI Clubman, Clarkson does not hesitate to say that “Unfortunately, after a week, I have decided it’s one of the worst cars in the world. About as desirable as a packet of dung or a can of worms. Truthfully? I’d rather have a goat.” Could it really be that bad?
We had the chance to catch the...

I'd like to see a Mini inspired by the small Mercedes Unimog that is no longer made.

LOL... That is just about one of the best reviews I've read all year... Gotta' love this guy!
As to the car, I think it is pointless and absolutely hideous! Sure, it looks like a Mini from the front (which I don't like that much to begin with), but from the side it just looks like Mini's entire design team were out with hangovers and the execs had to design it themselves!
A goat for me aswell, please!

What segment would that be?! The "I-HAVE-NO-COMPETITORS-LOOK-SILLY-IS-HUGELY-IMPRACTICAL-WILL-KILL-YOUR-CHILDREN-AND-NEVER-SELL"-segment?! Because then you are right, elseway, you are just as stupid as everybody think you are...

He does have a point about the the rear seat passenger door. Pretty surprising for a car from the UK, what were they thinking? Just goes to show how much influence the Germans truely have over the Brit's design and that they are not perfect. Yeah, I said it! The Germans are not perfect!

Well... Seing how it is basically a german car (assembled in the UK), it isn't that weird that the germans have quite an impact on the car... But I agree, it does seem weird that they haven't bothered moving the rear door in the british version!

I think he makes great points and in way I agree with his conclusion. Even though it really isn't "one of the worst cars" in absolute terms, it is when you think of how dumbed-down it is from the MINI, which is one of the best cars in its segment.
This is quite the opposite from what Porsche did in creating the Cayman, which even though it is essentially a hardtop Boxster, it instantly makes sense and can stand on its own. Otherwise why make a derivative vehicle in first place?

They should have called it the MINI Traveler. The Clubman was just a different style front end on the original Mini to provide more room under the bonnet for engine mods for the folks that raced their Minis.
I still prefer the original to the BMW wannabe.
