Comparison Test: Mitsubishi Evo GSR vs. Mitsubishi Evo MR vs. Subaru WRX STI
Comparison Test: Mitsubishi Evo GSR vs. Mitsubishi Evo MR vs. Subaru WRX STI

1st: EVO MR
2nd: EVO GSR
3rd: WRX Sti

Looks like the real winner is the last generation EVO.

At the Streets of Willow
Cutting right to the chase, the results around the Streets of Willow were as follows:

#2: Evo MR — 1:32.42
#3: Evo GSR — 1:32.51
#4: WRX STI — 1:32.68

No. 1 at Willow
You'll notice that the No. 1 car is missing from the lap times listed above. It's not a typo. We brought along a fourth car, a 2006 Lancer Evolution IX MR, to serve as a reality check.

From behind the wheel, the Evo IX is terrifically eager, accelerating from apex to apex like no other car here. It fidgets a bit more over midcorner bumps than the new Evo, but since it's a full 250 pounds lighter than the Evo X GSR, it proved unbeatable around the Streets of Willow.

In fact, it covered the next quickest car, the Evo X MR, by more than a half-second:

#1: Evo IX MR — 1:31.89

To this we say: Bring on a lighter Evo X. As capable as the new platform is, it has gained enough weight to prevent it from quite unseating its leaner, more sharply focused brother when it comes to stringing together all the elements of a fast lap.

I think more weight is because of People's request or complain that Old Evo is too focused on Performance and therfore make it more civilize and add more luxury
...etc

and anyway this is the first year of new EVO. Certainly new and more refined hardcore performance
variants will come.

i think same a case as with M3. Got a V8 and in some magazines they said it's not as sharp...etc

I'm a current IX owner and I think the X will obviously have great mod potential to overcome this. A friend of mine has a VI TME which was supposed to be the lightest and highest factory outputting Evo of recent times and most, even he, concludes that with the right mods (without going crazy and putting in new turbos or stroker kits), the IX will beat any other Evo at the track.

So that being said, the updated electronics will help the X ultimately be better the previous models. Also with a price hike over the old one, it would be hard to ask for more money from the customer to go into more light weight components.

Anyway, what else could they make lighter? I believe the frame is aluminium (not 100% sure though), a couple of panels are aluminium, the engine is like 20kg lighter? The gearbox only has 5 ratios (lighter than 6), the wheels are not significantly heavier if at all (+1" diameter though). You'd want to lose weight in the front of the car preferably..

My 2c.

I hear Mitsubusi doesn't honor warrante if you enter into any rally or race! Just don't take your Mits to any track to test 1/4 mile times for fun, because I hear they research this when your car breaks down. I will take the Subaru any day!
