Cop gives himself a $235 ticket and four points
None of us like getting tickets and avoid it at all costs by either taking an upcoming exit or speeding away as soon as we see a cop before he comes out of his little cubby hole to catch us. But have you ever wondered who tickets the cops for driving violations? And if they get pulled over do they just get off the hook because they are on the police force?

Well cops like Chief Dick Knoebel are probably the most stubborn yet honest cops out there. Chief Dick Knoebel gave himself a $235 ticket giving him four points on his driving record for passing a school bus with its stop lights flashing. While most might consider this stupid, Knoebel has been getting e-mails from all over the world congratulating him on his honesty and has even received offers for paying his ticket, which he turned down.

“Police officers do good things everyday, and that doesn’t get reported,” said Knoebel, who has been chief for 20 years in this town northwest of Milwaukee. “All you hear about in the news is when a police officer is in trouble.”

Good job, Knoebel, wish there were more like you out there.

Police organizations are the most crooked bunch of thugs in the world.

Wow, he gave himself a ticket - what a "hero".

He broke the law - plain and simple - why are police above the law?

The cashier at the mall gave me $5 too much the other day - I gave it back - am I a "hero" too.

Publicity stunt. Yeah like cops really get tickets. Although I have nothing against cops, that is simply the truth. He was just setting an example to make himself and the department look good. The proof, well he is the chief.

Sorry, but I don't consider anyone a hero for doing their job. I don't want to hear the soldier thing either. I am a Gulf war vet.

What really piss me of the most is Firefighter, everyone call them hero and shit. They doing the dawn job okay, so stop with stupid shit already.

ryaajus, this where I have disagree with you. I really consider soldier who stand their post diligently "HERO". They work long hour, stand watch, deloy usually 6+ months oversea. Most do it because because they need a secure career to take of their family. They do it not for fame or publicity, they do it because it the right thing to do.

They don't do shit 99% of their work time. One old lady dropped on the sidewalk the other day and the ambulance, police car and two huge firefighter cars jumped to the rescue. I would say the ambulance is of course necessary, and that's it.

But the other 1% (less or more) of the their work they go out there and die .. Now what pay would you ask for something like that ? (they get a good salary, but how much would you like for your life?)

On the other side .. that police officer was stupid, or very smart. I know one more case just like that and I know for a fact that this guy (I know) is stupid. Not his fault, mother nature ..

I see cops doing illegal stuff every day, like a few weeks ago there was this police car speeding like crazy (I was doing about 85mph on 75mph) and he passed me really quick. I was thinking there is a big emergency call someplace close, so he has to hurry up. 5 minutes later he was shooting with his radar (from the side of the highway) into the cars on my lane. What's the point going 100+mph just to stop a few minutes later on the side of the street?

I'll disagree w/ you on that one. I don't see many people running into burning buildings or being the 1st person on an accident scene. Firefighters rock. Sounds like you're neither a firefighter nor a soldier. And therefor no hero of mine.

I agree. This is so contradictory.

I won a court case last week. That's doing my job. Does that mean I get a medal and offers to give me twice my paycheck? No.

This isn't a good thing, it's a "wash." (When it's neither good nor bad) Had he not given himself a ticket, it wouldn't be a good thing, either.

I agree with ryaajus, you're not a hero for doing your job. Do something exceptional in your job ie firefighter save 11 people single handed or soldier save his whole platoon then yay your a hero. Put out a fire or shoot someone and you're not.

this is funny, but i really think that there should be a cop that just pulls over other cops for not doing their job or for doing it wrong. like i see cops sometimes turn on their lights just to get through traffic and then right after they turn it off.

Average salary of a firefighter in California is $100,000, begining salary for a cop is $45,000 plus, college degree not required, and they want to be called heros? For doing their own job? American culture-everybody wants to be a hero.

Obviously nobody here has ever been in law enforcement or any type of public service. Sure these guys and gals have down time at the coffee shop and play basketball behind the station when not on a call. But if you had to just once been in their shoes at one particular time, say a bank robbery, or felony traffic stop or hazmat scene, you'd be asking for a raise. These people do it and ask nothing. They're public service and therefor don't get paid much(locale dictates pay). Gimmee a break.

"Lexus", "rg12345" I'm sure you two would be up for running into the World Trade Centers while everyone else is running out.

Firefighters may do more sitting around then actual firefighting but you wouldn't catch me running into a fire. Besides I'd rather have a drink with a firefighter over a cop.

This is the stupidest thing in the world, if the guy's going to give himself a ticket, why would he do it in the first place? Dumbass publicity stunt.

In South Africa a few weeks ago cops were suspended after being found watching porn in the 10111 (our 911) call centre instead of answering emergency calls. Now there's a bunch of heros for you.
