Critics force Toyota to take a stronger ‘green’ stand
Forget for a second that the Toyota Prius is the best selling hybrid model which topped 1 million in sales this past May and forget that it averages 46 miles per gallon. It seems no matter how green Toyota gets, critics are still pushing the Japanese auto maker to live up to its ‘environmentally-friendly’ image.
Groups of environmentalists led by the Natural Resources Defense Council are calling Toyota out on its opposition to the strict fuel-economy standards that Congress is trying to set. In the past two weeks Toyota has received over 8,300 emails...

ridiculous article...toyota and honda do lead the segment. but who ever said it was against the law to put a product in market share to that particular markets standards. and thats exactly what the Tundra is.
this senator needs to look at chevy/ford and complain about the amount of trucks with horrible mpg they produce and stop trying to topple one of the very few companies that actually is doing something to help the issue.

I guess they are trying to defend the big 3. The big 3 are on the same side as toyota even though toyota is the most fuel efficient they still attack them.
Anyways toyota is not against making there vehicles more fuel efficient they just want more reasonable figures whats wrong with with that?

This is like telling Porche they need to live up to their sports car image, just because they lead the world on the track.

Honda then Toyota are definatly leading! With the advancement of tecknology I think the Goverment should give grants to proven power alternatives like the air car or cars running on water? The air car can drive from New York to LA on a single tank of gas! I want a Hummer with this tecknology! I love fast cars and obiously 4x4s! There is a cleaner way we can do it! It is just the Goverment doesn't want to let go of the gas tax!

and thats the truth...i recall the article of a converted diesel vehicle owner being sued because he didnt have any gas-tax, ect.
ridiculous as it may seem, it happened.
that whole scenario explains the reason why our vehicles are kept around 20mpg!

In order to get the tree-huggers off their ass, Toyota needs to put a V12 diesel in the Prius.
The real truth is that they're not dumb enough to take shots at the US companies (kiss their funding goodbye), so they use the tried and true "blame the yellow guys" tactic. This also explains how the Germans get away with stuffing V12s in 2-seaters without a peep from Al Gore and company.
