Cutting CO2 or a Sneak Attack on Porsche, Ferrari?:
Well all of you lemmings might get your wish!! Those euro politicos are already talking about tkaing away sports cars!! It was only a matter of time before they took away the good stuff as that is what the environ"mental"ism movement does. With no proof on Global Warming and the only solution to their made up problem being restrict and tax this is nothing but a class war, power and money grab.

Kudos!!

Porsche and Ferrari should be shut down. They're not helping the environment at all with their fast and polluting cars. Other companies like Toyota and Lexus are examples to all of us. Porsche and Ferrari should use hybrids I think and maybe source Lexus engines.

I blame Jesus for a lot of things, christianity encourages narrow viewpoints and hate towards many people.
Look at that Army spokesman who recently said that homosexuality was immoral. Why did he say that? Because the bible says so. George won't let gays have civil partnerships because, guess what, the bible says so. And don't get me started on evangelicals and born again christians who want to ban Harry Potter because it encourages witchcraft...
And bimmermike, in your rant you hit a key point. "the ability to do what they do and the freedom to say what they want without fear of reprisals."
Anyone has the ability to have an opinion, and buckfush's (and mine) is that Bush sucks and the bible is a made up story, and that saving the environment is good.
Actually, you just reminded me of another poster, who doesn't do any thing about global warming because he believes God will save us all at the last minute. Dumb or what?
And calling someone a filthy uneducated liberal is quite childish, I'll have you know I am neither filthy, nor uneducated, I am just a liberal. And I have the right to have that view, and to express it.

bimmermike - you seem like a very good example of a Christian.
The bible has good lessons on morality and general life codes (the 10 commandments are very solid ideals), but to me and to a lot of the world America is represented as believing whole-heartedly in it, unequivocally, leading to Christian extremism. And unfortunately those hateful Christians are the ones in the news, and the ones we hear about. Honestly I've been lead to believe the whole of the US is like that, ban Harry Potter etc.
The Bible, and indeed the Qu'ran are being used as a disguise for hate, which they shouldn't be, as they are both books promoting love and understanding. Indeed, Islam means peace.
I hope that there are more people like you, who share your views. I agree totally with what you say.

If there is so much proof then what about the proof on the other side?? What about the over 17,000 scientists that wrote their opinions for the intial IPCC report that told the U.N. they didn't believe this as fact and that man couldn't have caused a global tempurature rise. And the U.N. those upstanding good people over there disregarded those scientists and only put the ones in their report that agreed with their policies of more power and a central taxation structure for the U.N. ( They are laying the ground work to take over everything) When I called all of you lemmings it was true because apparently none of you can see this coming and that is why this article was written.

Jason, you are absolutely out of your mind. who is telling you these things? Only two people on this whole forum agree with you, and I have a feeling you two probably know each other... How is it that so many people can be wrong about global warming? This is not a new phenomenon, its been studied and investigated for decades now. And the overwhelming majority agree that it is a problem and that we need to do something. If it wasnt a problem, do you think a multi billion dollar company like GM or Toyota or Ford would even try to put out a hybrid/electric car at all? Look at the evidence that exists, man.. Not just on paper, but in front of your own eyes. We live in a society of Energy efficient appliances, biodegradable materials, and of course, recycling. How can so many obvious steps to preserve what we have LEFT, mean that we are all being misled?

Although I praise Gore for increasing awareness of man’s effect on earth, I do think it is pretentious to believe we know exactly how the mechanics of the earth works. Don’t get me wrong – people thinking about changing their habits to save the environment is terrific, and the effort must continue. However, there are more possibilities to explore and understand, and one of these may prove even more influential, such as methane emissions from farming (methane is 23 times more damaging to the atmosphere than carbon dioxide). What also concerns me is the rapidly decreasing magnetic field of the earth – less of the sun’s radiation is reflected, causing greater skin cancer risk, greater heat transfer to earth (and affecting the overall world climate), less pull on the earth’s crust (more earthquakes), just to name a few. How does Gore explain the freak snowstorms in North America at the beginning of April of this year? This event in itself should warn people that there’s much more at work than just greenhouse CO2 effects.

Regarding cars, the Mini Cooper in this article is a battery electric vehicle (BEV). It’s misleading that the company has the word “hybrid” in its name. I think diesels are the short-term solution (next 10-15 years) to minimizing our fossil fuel consumption, and BEV’s are the answer after that. Hybrids are a messy interim solution, as is hydrogen (you spend a lot of electricity getting hydrogen, why not put the electricity in a BEV directly?). Unfortunately, batteries are holding BEVs back, but not for long. The Tesla Roadster, the eBox, and now Mini Cooper prove that batteries are a becoming practical alternative (yet expensive) for allowing BEV’s to compete with cars today for most uses.

oh, and to the methane comment, I log that in the same category as Carbon Doxide emissions because both of these phenomenon are highly increased by humans. So, this would also help to determine the validity of Global Warming. something jason and formula 1 believe are tall tales.

I understand that the worlds mechanics are far beyond the understanding of men, but is at least being studied. Its not just the C02 emissions that bother us. Its the fossil fuel use, its the ignorance of people incapable of change. I dont think that Formula 1, Race Car, Endurance car, or even sports cars need to cease to exist, I just feel that they need to be made more efficient and that in the next 35- 40 years, gasoline powered engines will not be used in auto sports. The trend has already begun with audi Dominating the 24 hour Lemans race with a turbo diesel. Fuel Efficency is not only a possibility, its a necessity, and soon, it will be the law. Im ok with this. Autosports have survived set backs in the past, and this is no different.

we could also be really retarded and burn MASSIVE amounts of sulfur in the atmosphere, which could possibly cut down the C02 gases in the atmosphere in half, but that would just cause more problems, such as acid rain, drought in certain areas, etc... why cant we just limit the amount of gas we use, recycle, and plant a few trees, that way, even if the "worriers" like buckfush and I are possibly wrong, at least the earth is better than when we all started. how is this a problem? If you see a problem in that, you are selfish, and an imbecile.

Global warming is a reality whether we like it or not. The problem with politicians is that they pick an easy target like the auto industry instead of figuring out ways to suck CO2 out of the atmosphere like planting more trees and stopping Brazil from destroying the Amazon Jungle. Other countries are blaming the Industry leader, U.S.A., for not doing enough about pollution but they forget that U.S. technology will ultimately save the planet. U.S. space technology will allow us to eventually shield ourselves from solar radiation with space-based "umbrellas". Perhaps we can combine these umbrellas with space-based solar cells and the necesary equipment to beam microwave energy to back to earth in a concentrated beam.

I agree.
I'd like my government to help stop the Indonesian and Brazilian rainforests being cut down.

I'm a 90s kid, so the rainforest was "the cause" when I was younger, before global warming was properly investigated.

RupertRupert - 7/12/2007 12:40:03 PMView My AgentSpace

Exactly - the rainforest is a hugely important part of our ecosystem, it hosts many utterly unique species, and like you said, provides oxygen.

Also, I read somewhere than the burning of the rainforests account for more than 20% of CO2 emissions worldwide. They should do something about that.

These cars should have a carbon offset tax of some kind (oh yeah duh Gas Guzzler). No seriously they should probably be taxed just a little more. If you're Ferarri or Porsche owner and want to cry over this you really can't afford it then can you. If you are passionate about the car you will pay extra.

As far as emissions go. Let's not get all EU French pouty and start doing something about the cultivated SUV image in this country.

The US car companies throw their arms up and say "oh well it's what the customer wants" but it's what the car companies want the customers to want. SUVs have the highest profit margins of any type of vehichle a $14K fleet Silverado for less than $10K of additional cost sells nicely as a $60K Escalade.

Stop picking on rich people (I am not one of them) and nailing them to the cross for all of societies problems. It's really all the anonymous trained consumer monkeys that will run off a cliff if we're told it's cool.

yeah why dont we drive less because thatll change what is going to happen to the environment. Automobiles contribute not even close to a quarter of any emissions by the world's standards. so limiting cars is going to do nothing except ruin the fun for us.

but wait why dont we blame those rich people driving those porsches around all day for the emissions. in that case why dont we blame poor people for driving old cars with bad emissions since they cannot afford good new hybrids.

or why dont we switch to corn fuel. oh well a tahoe that was tested with it got 100 less miles out of a tank of that compared to normal gas, so that makes the cost and more fuel get used by the car. but its clean burning right? yes, until you are having to harvest more corn which requires more fuel for the tractors and we are right back to square one. and then on top of that the flexfuel is causing starvation in south and central america because corn prices are skyrocketing because of all that flexfuel. what a GREAT idea.

and how about those tress, there are more trees in North America than there has been in the past century.

and buckfush, you probebly like a good steak or a burger every now and then, maybe we should get rid of all the cows as well because they put out as much "global warming" gases as a range rover in one year. so now all the people who enjoy a burger and steak are at fault for global warming since there are so many cows in the US.

but in the end ofcourse its george bush's fault and all the rich conservatives' fault that there is global warming because they are the root of all evil in the world....ha

so now youve seen the brilliant ideas of buckfush and how he comes across his problems...he didn't address anything that i talked about in my comment except to give me a sarcastic answer. he just blames someone else. and apparently he knows EVERYTHING since he is from europe (probebly france) and is definently smarter than us because all americans are stupid and brainwashed except for the mighty al gore because he invented the internet and is smart enough to exploit the subject of global warming to give him more attention and money.

we definently need some smart europeans to tell us how to fix the world's problems. so come on buckfush. give us the answers we need since im sure you have them all since you are calling us out saying that we know nothing.

mercedesAMGmercedesAMG - 7/14/2007 8:10:57 PM

and then there have been studies to show that there is not nearly enough farmland in any part of the world to fuel the cars with corn let alone the farm equipment. I think that the cornfuel is a lost cause for companies to try to impliment them on a worldwide scale.

and no im not saying eh...who cares. im saying there is no easy solution to any problem especially anything like global warming. all im saying is that there are people like you that bitch bitch bitch all day long about how much this country sucks even though you are living here (which i hope you leave soon) and how blah blah blah the president is to blame because hes not trying hard enough or hes stupid.

but on another note, you are putting words in my mouth saying that i dont care about the rainforests, im just saying that there are more trees in America. why are you blaming americans for cutting down rain forests. the US doesn't have any rainforests, but im sure you think that is george bush's fault as well.
