DETROIT AUTO SHOW- Exclusive photos of the Toyota FT-HS retractable roof in action
As you know, we picked the Toyota FT-HS as our 'Best in Show' concept.

But until we saw it in person, we didn't know it had an electric retractable targa-style roof.

Here's a look at the roof in action in these exclusive photos.

Aha! I was waiting for any tricks Toyota had in this car, besides the hybrid engine of course. Not only is it a looker- but the retractable roof is very clever! I love how it's not "really" a retractable top. If the Supra comes out like this, it will be a huge winner.

No, I truly like it. Why are you like this? You hate on me because of my opinion.

Did I ever like the real pictures of the IS-F? I thought it looked promising in the blurry pictures, but you couldn't see any detail there. In the high-res, normal pictures, the bodykit is hideous. God, you make us seem like a married couple. Could you stop this now?

God, you're being such an @ss right now. I said I liked the damn Toyota. It's very cool.

hilarious comedy show and the FT-HS can be pretty sexy, but they always dull up the concept into production model. im still wondering why they couldn't release the LF-S AS IS. it is GORGEOUS!

"Specially in the IS-F threads. "

Oh yeah, Will, stating the obvious makes me such an @sshole, I know!

The IS-F is the elephant in the room. Lexus fans know it's ugly, and they know it's there, but they're not admitting it.

And you are so "not" narrow-minded, trying to push everybody into loving the IS-F with bull$hit excuses for its ugliness like "it's AGGRESSIVE!" and "that hood is there for FUNCTION!"

Why did you even bring the IS-F up? You know I don't like it, and you know you "like" it, and you know you were starting a flame war. I'm reminding myself too much of BMW530i with you- you two always got into these stupid arguments. I hope I'm not kicked off! Although, I would be okay if I ended up with a CL550.

Lexus fans know it's ugly? We secretly believe that it's ugly but praise it to keep up the "company line"? Is this your assertion? I am a Lexus fan, and I find the car quite exciting (IS-F) I am looking forward to the release this year(not next as everyone keeps saying) and while it will not be as pure sport as the M3, it will be a very refined Lexus with startling performance Lexus style (which is completely different from the Germans- not better at all, just different)

"You and BMW530i are stubborn and mean-spirited."

Okay, yeah, and you're definitely not stubborn, Will... you're just perfect, always right, about absolutely EVERYTHING...

Ah, but rear passengers have to get out for this roof operation to work.

I still think the similiar roof idea of the Ferarri SuperAmerica is more functional, and doesn't look disjointed when not in place.

no, they can just DUCK THEIR HEADS.

DOLT! why would the roof even be retracted IF the back seat were being used?

The same things happen in my car... except usually, if I'm putting the top up (or down), I'm getting into my garage, and tell the people in the back that they have to get out anyway.

GS-h can beat anything German that doesn't have an oversized 5+ litre engine...and save gas to boot.

Yeah, it is pretty funny.

that's the most obvious statement i have ever seen.

like saying the GS-h is faster than any german car with less power...no $hit sherlock!

A ferrari is faster than any german car without a 5.0L engine, too...what's your point????

Matthew1Matthew1 - 1/11/2007 11:59:12 PM
-2 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
What's even funnier is that the GS-h needs two engines to achieve this.

Funnier still, stop-light drags are lame.

And what's really funny is those TWO engines get better gas mileage than the German's one engine.

Cool...I like that. Probably no need to stop the car while retracting the roof panel.

Wow a modern Honda Del Sol! LOL! For those who remember that 90's car. Overall I don't think this concept looks too bad, but reminds me more of a Celica than a Supra.

Matthew,
No one outside of Europe cares about diesels. Diesels are for yuppies over here and cheapskates over there who'd sell out their kids health to save a few cents.

just read an article about how containships have totally transformed the shipping industry. ports designed for containerships have nearly put the older, traditional ports out of business.

while the shipping costs have been slashed, there has been a downside.

with the heavily increased traffic of trucks and railways servicing these superports, the INCREASE IN DIESEL EXHAUST FUMES have caused increases in cancers and other ailments in the surrounding areas.

the harmful effects of diesel exhaust is still much UNDERRECOGNIZED.

i never said the PORTS were at fault. and the article (actually a review of 3 books on the subject) mentioned how shipping costs have been dramatically reduced.

my main point is that diesel fumes ARE NOT BENIGN! the simple VOLUME of traffic at these super ports make it unavoidable that there is a high concentration of diesel fumes. this may be an unavoidable NECESSARY social cost of transport efficiency, but it IS A COST that should not be ignored.

"Actually, the ports established today are all placed well outside populated areas to avoid pollution of the areas!"

and this is a commendable action in response.

MDalle,
Care to prove that diesels release less PM? Your word doesn't really mean much on this site.

that gasoline PM-technology is non existent simply REFLECTS the FACT, that IT WAS NEVER AS HUGE a problem as with diesel engines!

when ALL diesels have highly efficient PM filters, INCLUDING retrofits on older diesel engines, THEN society can address the need for PM filters on gas engines.
