DETROIT AUTO SHOW: Fisker Unveils The Stunning Karma S Concept

Fisker Automotive, the new American manufacturer of premium green automobiles, unveiled the Fisker Karma S concept at the 2009 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) today.

The four-seat, plug-in hybrid hardtop convertible furthers the company’s belief that driving style and performance need not be compromised for environmental friendliness.

The open-air Fisker Karma S concept shares its aluminum spaceframe architecture and clean Q-DRIVE® powertrain with the Fisker Karma sedan. Designed and engineered by Quantum Technologies exclusively for Fisker Automotive, Q-DRIVE® provides 50 emission-free miles on a single charge to its lithium-ion battery pack,
and up to 403hp from two electric motors. The power retractable hard top, a first for Fisker, glides neatly into the trunk and a unique design language sets the Karma S concept apart.

“Our objective is to create a singular design language and heritage around our state-of-the-art Q-DRIVE® powertrain,” said Fisker Automotive, Inc. CEO Henrik Fisker. “The Karma S is an extension of the Fisker Automotive product range of eco-conscious automobiles and sets the tone for our future.“

This is a beautiful car. I swear to God all this bailout money that was given to the garbage 3 is gone in vain, it should've been given to these new American companies.

I agree completely. If the US government deems the US auto industry so important to the US economy, than all they need to do is make sure the parts of the dead US automakers get sold to only American firms. Viola! A re-energized US auto industry and the culture of mediocrity is gone.

Now that is a sexy car! However, one of my big problems with electric cars is that I would not want to keep stopping every 50 miles to charge up. This is the kind of car I could easily drive 500 miles without stopping (except to pee).

Fisker Karma is a plug-in hybrid so you won't have to stop after 50 miles, you'll continue to drive using gasoline engine for distances as long as in ordinary cars. The 50-miles all electric range is to cover daily commutes without a drop of fuel. Overall through the car life I would be surprised to see 95% of gas saved.

Absolutely Stunning.....This car is just gorgeous and it hard to belief that their another car out there that is as sexy, elegant, and stunning as Aston Martin and Maserati Grand Turismo S.

This is my next car unless Lexus or someone comes out with a better Plug in hybrid in the next few years. I just wish it would get 100 miles on a full charge instead of 50. I bet it will by 2015 or maybe even 2013.

it looks like they ripped off an aston martin. this care is an exercise in futility. they are way too expensive to be mainstream. and if they're not mainstream, they are pointless. the people with the excess money that can afford these expensive "green" cars, can afford the gas as well. so really the only point would be to diminish pollution - which brings me back to the first point about the exclusivity due to cost. pointless.
