Though the Detroit Auto Show brought us a new Volkswagen concept in form of the Cross Blue, I was more intrigued to see the Cross Coupe, again. This concept has been around since 2011; however, it was revised in 2012 to the red version we see below.

The differentiating factor over the original is the TDI, plug-in hybrid powertrain. That means there is a diesel motor supported by two electric powerplants. High tech stuff.

But I wouldn't be telling the truth if I didn't say I am really captivated by how the Cross Coupe looks. That's because it's teutonic. While so many German vehicles have "gone soft" or embraced curves, this Cross Coupe is more of a testament to its utilitarian bredrin that came before it.

That said, I am a bit curious:

Do we NEED to see more teutonic designs like the below or are you happy with what is currently being produced by the German automakers?
