Though the Detroit Auto Show brought us a new Volkswagen concept in form of the Cross Blue, I was more intrigued to see the Cross Coupe, again. This concept has been around since 2011; however, it was revised in 2012 to the red version we see below. The differentiating factor over the original is the TDI, plug-in hybrid powertrain. That means there is a diesel motor supported by two electric powerplants. High tech stuff. But I wouldn't be telling the truth if I didn't say I am really captivated by how the Cross Coupe looks. That's because it's teutonic. While so many German vehicles have "gone soft" or embraced curves, this Cross Coupe is more of a testament to its utilitarian bredrin that came before it.That said, I am a bit curious:Do we NEED to see more teutonic designs like the below or are you happy with what is currently being produced by the German automakers?Let us know in the comments below...AutoSpies.com is the number one site in the world for Auto Show photos. With other sites you're a spectator but with Auto Spies is like you're THERE!Official Detroit Auto Show photo gallery**The 2013 Detroit Auto Show Gallery and coverage is sponsored by Lexus

So the mystery is finally solved as to why you so heavily criticize a certain Japanese luxury marque. You like boring, anonymous styling but you are completely entranced, not unlike a racoon, by shiny and blingy things like lots and lots of chrome and glossy surfaces. It makes you feel fancy and important and maybe a bit glitzy when, well, clearly, you're probably not. :-)— cidflekken (View Profile)

Oh, get over yourself @cid.We like all designs as long as they make sense. A lot of choppy lines and poor execution does not work in any car no matter where it's made.Take, for example, the Acura NSX. Beautiful car. — Agent00R (View Profile)

While I am not enthused by the interior color selections, I could easily see replacing my Tiguan for a CrossCoupe with a TDI (plugin hybrid or not). That said, I have no issues with current VW styling, although I am leaning strongly towards Audi for my next purchase. Why? The Q5 will have a diesel before VW has something in that size with a diesel. I don't believe the Tiguan will be diesel in the US before 2015, while the Q5 will be here later this year. I don't really need the V6, but I'm not going to wait another two years for a small diesel CUV with 4 cylinders.— atc98092 (View Profile)

The interior styling and design, as a whole, is very similar to the Lambo concept.— MorePower (View Profile)

Looks like VW used the interior of the Lamborghini SUV concept as the basis for this project. I like that there is room for a fourth pedal, though I doubt many will have it.Styling looks ok, if not bland, from the front.Pricing and engine options will determine if this vehicle succeeds.— MorePower (View Profile)

Where do you see the Lambo besides the blocky seat backs?— Agent00R (View Profile)

B and C pillars look a bit awkward. If it gets the green light for production it will just be a smaller Touareg. VW is not going to do anything out of the box. — PLAY (View Profile)

I think VWs tend to be understated in presentation, other than perhaps the seats e.g. plaid GTI seats. The last exciting VW design was the GX3, which I truly wish VW would offer, even as a kit.— HighDesert (View Profile)
