Daimler's new names
Shareholders of DaimlerChrysler have approved the company’s new name ‘Daimler AG’ and have also agreed to rename the car division ‘Mercedes-Benz Cars.’ Following the split of DaimlerChrysler earlier this year, shareholders were required to vote in a new name for the group. Many of the investors still wanted to honor one of the carmaker’s founders, Carl Friedrich Benz, whose name was dropped from the official title seven years ago following the merger with Chrysler. That’s why the former Mercedes Car Group is being renamed Mercedes-Benz Cars. Read Article

Yes, why would they ever call it the "Mercedes Car Group" if the founding of Mercedes-Benz had really nothing to do with "Mercedes" at all??? Karl Benz and Gottleib Daimler deserve all the credit.

The name really should be 'Grace and Divinity', because all Mercedes-Benz are crafted from the forge of God himself. Those persons worthy to have experienced the soul-stirring art of Mercedes ownership have been created from the hands of God.

Wow, have you met david989? He's your bizarro-world-twin, he says the same thing about Lexus.

This is marketing brochure language -- nice words, intangible veiled promises and zero technical information. There is absolutely nothing "soul-stirring" about the cramped quarters, firm butt-busting seats, and harsh ride of the 2008 C-Class.

No. As a consumer, I would rather see Lexus eliminated and Toyotas made with Lexus-style interiors without a price increase. This would not cost Toyota more and consumers would not have to pay a fortune just to get the Lexus L on the grille. Lost contribution to overhead and profit from Lexus would be offset by the economies of scale and reduced overheads associated with fewer models that the Toyota group would then have to deal with.

Well, wouldn't we all? But you're living in a fantasy world. That's like saying, "I want the performance of a Bugatti Veyron for the price of a Mazda MX-5." It's not going to happen.

Lexus ALWAYS understates their 0 - 60 times by at least .5 seconds. Here are the results of the 5 Top Luxury Cars in this test which was reported in the January Issue of Car and Driver. Please note these tests were all done on the same day at about the same time and at the same altitude. The results reflect the average of 3 runs and all cars are the 2007 vintage.

Mercedes S550 5.6, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.1 (Benz show 5.4 in their specs)
BMW 750iL 5.7, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.2
Jag XJ Super 6.0 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.5
Lexus LS460L 6.2 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.6
Audi A8 6.8 0 - 60 quarter mile 15.2

Note that Lexus, as usual, is more than the 5.4 the manufacturer CLAIMS to get by .8 seconds.

Also note the LS430 (prior model the LS460 replaced) was rated at 295 HP and was actually 278 when Lexus corrected their rating. And there were no refunds or apologies from the so-called "quality" car company. ABC - Always Be Careful what you buy from the (REPREHENSIBLE) Toyota/Lexus people.....
