Daimler to begin dating BMW for a potential partnership?
Now that Daimler (still named DaimlerChrysler) has divorced Chrysler, is the German giant ready to start dating again? According to an unidentified Mercedes executive who spoke with German magazine Auto Motor und Sport, a partnership with BMW could be in the works.

Yeh maybe they could put half there brains together and equal the technology and realiability of Japanese cars. But wait ther's more almighty BMW "will never sell out to a parent company" blah blah blah

LOL you'd be in Heave Benz W124...HAHAHAHAHAHAH

BMW combining forces with Chrysler......... now your going to see rebadging and even more crap interiors from BMW just like you see in the Mercedes C-class.

Talk about not being a stable company to take on the likes of the VW Auto Group, and the former DaimlerChrysler.

What a joke BMW is turning into...combining with Chrysler. Oh well for the independence and not having to rely on other companies.

I can see BMW gaining better reliability and better quality materials, but what would Mercedes have to gain out of the relationship? And certainly they would never platform-share on their primary vehicles? I don't know how I'd feel about a 7-Series being rebadged as an S-Class. Part of the allure of these two brands is the dedicated teams of engineers who live and breathe automobiles. Combining forces and specializing labor isn't bad don't get me wrong, but I don't think it's particularly good for such prestigious and highly-lauded automobile companies.

Not sure where your getting MB more reliable than BMW...BMW blows MB out of the water on reliability.

At this point, nobody even knows what sort of partnership they are talking about.

Reliability? i wont even go there, i might go on for days. I think research and dev is something that both companies can share and benefit from. Lets face it, there is nothing found on a BMW/BENZ that either manufacturer isnt capable of doing themselves but combining it might make it perfect.

oh, and as far a build quality. I think BMW offers a very high Build quality. If alot of people actually spend the time to research what goes into some of the cars they talk about so much as apposed to just looking at a picture and making an assumption, they would know that both companies uses very high build quality. Its not just about a million buttons, fancy lights and switches.

It is about th ebuttons look at Acura and Lexus, difference is their buttons don't break in a year.
Let the deboosting continue on the German fanboys page!

Show me a car made 20 years from now that has all these so called 'buttons, switches, etc', step into the future! Some manufactures beleive in the minimalist theory, less is more. More IDRIVE. Less buttons, ha

I can think of a LOT of reasons to improve a Mercedes to be more like a BMW than vice versa.

So this would be great for Mercedes, but why would this be good for BMW?

The only partnership I want between these two companies is one that would see Mercedes adopt the BMW in-line six engine for the C- and E-Class and BMW adopt the unique seats of the S-Class across the entire BMW product line.
