There were 9,132 accidents reported in the city in 2007, resulting in 1,699 deaths, the city's safety authorities announced yesterday.

The number of accidents was down 25.7 percent on last year, while the death toll dropped by 5.6 percent compared to 2006.

Traffic accidents were the most common.

Authorities recorded 1,171 traffic accident deaths last year, a drop of 4.9 percent from the previous year
