Dealer Price Gouging Begins on the new Dodge Challenger! 15k Markups
The new SRT Challengers are starting to hit dealerships across the United States. Yes it packs a very potent 6.1 Hemi , BUT the more important question you should be asking is what's up with the 15k markup on this bad boy in an economy that is seeing 4-5 dollar a gallon gas.

The 15k markup can be seen on the VWvortex forum where one brave dealer has announced to the automotive world that NO you wont be able to test drive and YES you will be hit with a 15k markup on the price! You can prepare to pay around 57,000 buckaroos at this dealership for the new Challenger.
Would you be willing to pony up 60 k for a Dodge SRT? You could probably pick up 2-3 USED SRT vehicles for this price and still have money left over for gas.

To all that would think of ponying up 60 smackaroos, fight the anticipation and wait a few months- they will drop that 15k mark up .

What other cars would you rather have for 60 k?

i was in St. Louis over the weekend, dealership there had 5 (3 black, 2 orange) all for around $41k...i hope the dealers that take on the 15k get stuck with them.
Time to take back the automotive world! We control it, not the dealers/manufacturers, if we stop buying they will finally get the picture!

It isn't price gouging it's supply and demand. The market determines the price in a free capitalism. A Challenger isn't a "need" it's a "want" and you can't gouge on the purchase of a "want".

kthor - Good post. I think you're 100% correct. Of course, the dealers holding 15k over sticker will probably lose.

This is probably the only way Chrysler will make an actual profit these days.

Question asked: "What other cars would you rather have for 60 k?"

A C63 AMG certainly comes to mind!

Chrysler should do something about these snakes. It speaks bad of Chrysler jsut standing back and letting this happen. I traveled from AZ to Tx to buy my car because the AZ dealers wanted to rape me.

Save the drama for your mama. Price fixing as you suggest is illegal here and it didn't work out so well for the communist countries that tried it. Comparing making a profit for your work to rape is repulsive.

I don't agree with marking them up, but on the other hand if I were a dealer and sold for MSRP, then someone turned around and sold it for $15000 extra on ebay...I don't think I'd care much for that.

Like all other markup cars, the real culprit is the goofballs that PAY the markup. If they didn't have to be first on the block or would do some creative shopping, the dealers would have to sell @ MSRP because that's the only way they'd sell!

I got an MR-2 Spyder for MSRP in New York while dealers around Dallas had them +$5000-7000. $400 shipping (which they split with me!) and I got a great deal and could have made a few grand profit.

What's so much about a markup? I mean...it's not like we ever pay attention to the MSRP and the dealer invoice. Even if it's rare and there's potential customers out there, I think the dealer wouldn't refuse service just 'cause a customer wants to negotiate the price.

I'd hate to see this car and a pack of crown vic's do a low speed highway chase with a prius. You'll be able to see the exact moment when they know they're about to run out of gas....it'll be when you start seeing them smash the pruis to bits to get it to stop.
