Jeep Patriot Electric Vehicle (EV)Chrysler LLC unveiled today the new Jeep Patriot EV, a range-extended electric vehicle (EV) which combines the power of an integrated electric generator with a small gasoline engine in order to produce additional energy to power the electric-drive system when needed.

The new vehicle comes with a refined and clean front appearance while its interior features all the goodies which were introduced in the refreshed 2009 Jeep Patriot.

OK. So, I've always been a fan of the Jeep brand. But, why can't they just squeeze the Patriot, Commander, Compass, and Liberty into one vehicle, so that they have a simplified lineup of the Grand Cherokee at one end, the Wrangler at the other end, and something in between (a Patriot-esque vehicle. And, this Patriot appears to be geared to the "on-road" vehicle crowd (hence why they are coming out with an EV version). I am not sure anyone in their right mind would take this off-road.

...and, for a 4400 pound vehicle, it is grossly underpowered. I believe the stock bhp is about 170 with about 165 torque. Even with 200bhp (in this EV version), I think it would really struggle in any kind of mountainous terrain.

stick some solar panels on the roof and you could go on forever if only it wasnt so unpleasant to look at, but then again you are sitting in looking out...
