Did Acura Miss The Chance To SQUELCH The Lexus LF-A?

If the power was there (the NSX was woefully underpowered after the 3rd year) then yes. Lexus would have appeal to the softer side and the NSX would have been more for the hard core crowd.

Honda needs to build something that actually shows what they are capable of. For god sakes, they can make a amazing robot called ASIMO, why not make an unbelievable car (whether it be an impressive luxury Acura or performance car, just build the damned thing and show us your mojo!) I am tired of boring and miss-the mark products from Honda.

At the time that they cancelled it, the economic crisis was at its height. The probably transfered the development $ to their racing division to justify the development price tag and the car is actually going to be produced for the streets within a year or two. This is probably and engine, suspension, etc. test for the car, just like the LF-A did at (I believe) Le Mans and the 24 hour race at "The Ring". I don't think a new NSX is really dead yet.

Bottom line is Toyota is a much more powerful and diversifide auto manufacture...Period. Even if the NSX is ever built, it will not be in the same league as any high range Lexus(particularly the F models). As long as Honda appeals to the so called hard core crowd they will forever trail Toyota & Lexuses image, let alone thier engineering prowess. In a sense, you are what you eat!

3.4l V-8 producing more than 500hp. Sounds like it will be impressive. Honda really needs this car in the lineup...now. And judging from that picture, the car looks like it means business. I say F$%^ Lexus and their much overhyped LF-A. Sure it's a hell of a car, but you can't buy it and keep it. You have to return it in 2 years?!?!?! Honda, give the public this car to show that you have the world's best engineers. And to stick it right up Lexus's A@@.

I would have a hard time figuring out how Honda could turn a low-slung high-powered supercar into a halo car for Acura because of Acura's near-luxury reputation. It's too big a marketing leap. An everyday high-performance sports coupe (like the GT-R) would make more sense. If Honda's looking to upgrade the Acura image, it would do better with a larger flagship sedan.

Good point AlleVier. For some reason or another there's still a few knucle heads out there that still dont realize the Nissan GT-R is seriouly not in the same class as the Lexus LF-A supercar. Like I said in past comments, the GT-R may have only one thing in common with the LF-A and that will be from 0-60, after that the GT-R will be blown to oblivion! Definition of the word oblivion: the condition of being utterly forgotten......sorry guys as much as I like the Nissan GT-R, when you park one next to the LF-A....it will be forgotten right before your very eyes!

Ok well if the NSX looked like that then I think that it will be up there in terms of styling, placing at least 2nd place behind the LF-A. The GT-R has great performance figures but I feel that the LF-A is more desired simply because they took so long to build the engineering masterpiece. Also the NSX has been long awaited as well so it shares nearly the same hype. I wish Honda can bring it back for Acura. Acura needs something like this to showcase what they got. GT-R is a thing of the past. The next hotness will be the limited edition LF-A.

Don't believe anything coming out of Honda HQ. They have no intention of building any more NSXs, or even trying to compete towards tier 1 status. They left the Acura dealers out to dry, with very few new models of any kind (except for this disaster known as the ZDX).

LFA is the hotness right now and it's not even out yet. All the figures on it are from the factory. Conservative in other words. When cars get tested in real world they are usually much faster than factory estimates. Who said the F430 Scuderia would go to 60 in 3.2? No one, more like 3.6, but it achieved 3.2 and the same goes with the GTR. Blew away factory estimates. So i won't be suprised to see the LFA hit 205 maybe 210mph. Hit 60 in 3.4 etc. etc.

Not really... I think if anything, it would cut into that Audi R8/Gallardo/Porsche 911/GT-R kind of market... not so much ultra-Exotic market... I don't think the NSX was ever going to be more than $150,000...

What Honda really should do is put their SH-AWD to good use an make a 370Z competitor for their Honda Division, and a G37 competitor for their Acura division. They also need to change their design scheme and get rid of the bird beak front ends.

Damn, this car looks badass. Wonder what happened to the V10. And I thought Lexus using a 4.8 liter V10 making 552 hp was great, this is using a 3.4 liter V8, I wonder wat the torque numbers are, because this has got to be a very high revver. And I'm willing to bet, that not only did Honda use it's F1 arm, but it's Motorcycle arm as well (love the CBR1000RR), just like Lexus/Toyota used their connection with Yamaha.

I really like the front end of the car, if they can keep that plus the intakes...hot damn...

The car makes 500HP+ from a 3.4 liter as does all the Super GT GT500 class vehicles. So to say it's amazing you would have to look at the rest of the cars that compete in the series and say the same for them. Japanese racing is super competitive. They are faster than DTM cars. The only non-open wheel race cars faster around tracks are LeMans GT1 class cars and prototypes. I doubt the engine would be a small displacement 500+ HP in the road car. That's smaller than the V6 on the Honda accords. Race engine- not street car or production engine. They wouldn't last too long in real world applications.

I thought numerous source from other auto website and magazine claim the Nissan GT-R can goes from 0 to 60 in 3.1 second Not 3.5 second.

Why was the NSX woefully underpowered? Because the line indicating HP didn't give the driver a 12" extension? With 290hp, it was able to run with the best of them.

The Subaru STi has 100 less hp than the V8 M3. Both have similiar 0-60 times and topspeed. I guess the STi is horribly underpowered.



This NSX does look very mean though, much more than the LF-A that lost the dragon headlights.
